Iowa Records 2,200 Gay Marriage In First Year, Dallas Attack Reclassified As Hate Crime, Ellen Page, Ryan Gosling Cannes Sexy, Jake Shears Love His Chest, Hugh Jackman Gets Better With Age, Clay Aiken Boyfriend Reed Kelly Strips

There have been a total of 2,200 same sex couples wed in Iowa since gay marriage became legal in the state in April 27th, 2009 though to March 31st, 2010. Of those, according to a new report released Tuesday by the Iowa Department of Public Health, only 815 couples were from in-state, the rest from out of state, including 199 from Illinois, 158 from Missouri, and 111 from Nebraska. Among the gay couples, 1,292 were women, 728 were men.

An update on a previous post, thankfully Dallas police are investigating the brutal gay bashing early Saturday morning as a hate crime, reclassified from aggravated robbery after authorities took into consideration that the assailants used a number of anti-gay slurs during an attack on two men in their twenties who were beaten with baseball bats, and robbed of their cell phones and wallets. Laura Martin, the LGBT liaison officer for the Dallas Police Department said that after meeting with her lieutenant and Assistant Chief Floyd Simpson, the crime was reclassified because the two men were targeted solely based on their perceived sexual orientation. “If someone’s targeted because of who they are and they’re in a protected class, there is more attention that needs to be paid,” said Martin, adding that “We don’t want people coming down in the Cedar Springs area and thinking they can just beat up and rob members of the GLBT community because it seems like a fun thing to do. We don’t want people thinking that’s OK to do, so I can assure you that it will be investigated and given plenty of attention.”

Ellen Page is set to star in an adaption of the Academy Award winning documentary Freehold, an account of a New Jersey car mechanic, Stacie Andree, and her girlfriend Laurel Hester, a police detective, and the couple’s battle to secure Hester’s pension benefits after she was diagnosed with a terminal illness. Page will play Andree, and the script is by Ron Nyswaner, who wrote Philadelphia, who also wrote an adaption of Hamlet currently being filmed.

Ryan Gosling is seen Tuesday in Cannes at the official screening of My Blue Valentine, the much talked about movie which co-stars Michelle Williams.
