Hawaii Governor Linda Lingle said Saturday she interprets the civil unions bill passed by the state Legislature is identical to same sex marriage. “It does appear to me on reading, that it really is same-sex marriage, but by a different name. But I want to wait and hear people out,” she said while attending a GOP convention in Waikiki. She added that understands domestic partnerships to be different from the civil unions described in the bill. Lingle is on record as favouring a form of domestic partnership legislation but that she opposed same sex marriage.
