Bakersfield California High School Trustees Vote To Ignore Harvey Milk Day, Senator Lieberman Says Vote On Extending Benefits To Same Sex Partners Of Gay Federal Employees Soon, American Absence Of Immigration Reform Threatens Gays, Gay Entrepreneurs Start Out, Jason Akermanis Says Stay In Closet Gay Athletes Because Showering Next To Him Makes Him Nervous, Cristiano Ronaldo, Franklin Rutz Naked

Bakersfield, California, the Kern High School District Board of Trustees voted 3-1 Wednesday to not observe Harvey Milk Day May 22nd. California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed the day commemorating the slain gay rights leader on October 12th, 2009, but Bakersfield high school trustee Ken Mettler proposed a motion to ignore the day, Mettler at a meeting May 3rd saying that “Harvey Milk does not rise to the level of a special day of recognition.” Mettler is running for the 32nd Assembly District seat, but denies that the anti-Milk proposal is a means to shore up support among conservative voters.

Senator Joseph Lieberman, the lead sponsor of a bill that would extend benefits to the same sex partners of gay federal employees says a vote in the Senate is likely “within weeks.”

Meet Mohammad Abdollahi, a 24 year old openly gay undocumented Iranian immigrant, brought to the United States illegally at the age of 3, and who, because American legislators keep delaying immigration reforms, now faces deportation to Iran – a country where homosexuality is a capital crime and human rights violations are the norm.

Someone named Jason Akermanis authors an article in Thursday’s Australian Herald Sun advising his Australian Football League peers who are gay to remain in the closet, Akermanis writing that “if a player wants to out himself, then I say good luck. But I believe the world of AFL footy is not ready for it. To come out is unnecessary for a lot of reasons.” According to Akermanis, an openly gay player would corrode the cohesion of a team, and because “locker room nudity is an everyday part of our lives and unlike any other work place ... I believe it would cause discomfort in that environment should someone declare himself gay.” He then awkwardly relates an antidote about a gay teammate showering, while insisting he against homophobia, concluding his advice with the following: “Locker room nudity and homoerotic activities are normal inside footy clubs. Young people from the ages 15-24 are the main participants in organized sport in Victoria. Some of them must be gay and I hope they thoroughly enjoy their sporting lives without having to experience any form of prejudice. But if they are thinking of telling the world, my advice would be forget it.”
