Vatican Continues Campaign Deflecting Criticism Over Comments Made Connecting Homosexuality And Pedophilia, Italian Court Reject Gay Marriage Appeal, American Syndicated Radio Show A Front For Gay Cure Group, Kellan Lutz Shirtless And Wet In Interview, Dolce And Gabbana Underwear Campaign, Andy Roddick

The Vatican Wednesday attempted to deflect intensified condemnation over comments made Monday by the secretary of state – the pope’s top aide – that the problem of pedophile priests is homosexuality and not the church’s vow of celibacy that each priest must take. Vatican spokesperson the Reverend Federico Lombardi insists that the statements made by Cardinal Tarcisio Monday in Santiago, Chile liking homosexuality to pedophilia was one regarding pedophilia in society in general, and that despite referencing medical studies, the Cardinal was not making any medical or psychological contentions.

In Italy Wednesday, the highest court in the country, the Constitutional Court, rejected appeals by three same couple whose marriage filings were refused by local authorities. The Court ruled the requests related to gay unions “not admissible” and “unfounded.” The motivation for the ruling was not revealed at this time. Italy remains one of the few western European countries without legislation on same sex unions.

In the United States, a popular nationally syndicated radio show is under attack by gay advocacy groups after revelations that the program – Dawson McAllister Live – which purports to be an advice show may in fact be a front for an evangelical Christian group that is clearly anti-gay. Sunday evening, 22 year old Greg Kimball, a college student who is openly gay, called the show and pretended to be a teenager who was questioning his sexual identity. He said that the person who offered council drew an analogy between homosexuality and addictions, like alcoholism or gambling, said it was unnatural, and was a sin akin to murder. After hanging up, Kimball called back, and told the representative that he was now – as a questioning teenager – worried he would go to hell. Kimball says he was then referred to Exodus International, an anti-gay, hateful organization that claims homosexuality can be cured. Most troubling, on the Dawson McAllister Live website, Exodus International is listed as a sponsor of the show, a fact that is never disclosed on air. Clear Channel Communication airs the show nationally, but in a statement the company said it cannot exercise any control over comments made off air.
