Mexico City Registers 88 Gay Marriages In A Month, Western Kentucky University Extends Benefits To Domestic Partners, Oklahoma Gay Man Targeted With Violence But State Excludes Sexual Orientation From Hate Crime Protection, Montana Gay Bashing Reported, Nicollette Sheridan Sues Marc Cherry, People Profiles Rachel Maddow And Partner, Male Model Matt, Sam Webb Smokes

According to Mexico City officials, eighty-eight same sex couples have married in the capital city since legislation allowing gay unions came into effect March 4th. Officials say that fifty of the couples were male, and thirty-eight female. It is expected that another thirty-seven couple will marry between April and June.

Western Kentucky University announced Friday that it will begin offering health insurance to domestic partners of employees. The new coverage plan will take effect January 1st, 2011, WKU becoming the public university in the state to extend benefits to same sex domestic partners.

Phillip Nelson, 24 years old, of Claremore, Oklahoma, a city north of Tulsa, has been the target of violent harassment for over a month, according to reports, his apartment broken into and vandalized, and Nelson the victim of an assault, punched in the face while taking out the trash, all because he is gay. Claremore police are investigating, but because the state does not recognize sexual orientation as a basis for a hate crime, despite a federal hate crime law bill passed last year, they are investigating Nelson’s case as that of breaking and entering.

An unidentified 32 year old man in Missoula, Montana was assaulted early Saturday outside of AmVets Club in the city’s downtown, and he has told police that he was attacked by between eight and ten individuals, although not all participated in the alleged attack. He says that the men used a number of anti-gay slurs. Police are investigating and are attempting to determine whether the attack was motivated by the man’s sexual orientation. “I can’t say for sure that the victim was chosen out of discrimination or if the derogatory term was used against him as a part of the disturbance,” said Sergeant Bob Bouchee, “but there was some words used that leads us to believe it was a discrimination-type assault.”

Nicollette Sheridan is suing ABC and Desperate Housewives’ series creator Marc Cherry for twenty million dollars in a lawsuit that could define ludicrous. Sheridan says that in the fall of 2008, during rehearsal for Desperate Housewives, she questioned Cherry about a script point, Cherry responded by taking her aside and hitting her across the face and head. When she complained, she claims, ABC and Cherry fired her.
