Constance McMillen, Her Date, And Five Other Students Sent To Sham Prom

Not to disparage an entire town, but Fulton, Georgia may well the worse municipality in the United States, reports Monday that the Constance McMillen and her date were sent to a fake prom Friday night, along with five other students from the Itawamba County Agricultural High School, the ruse concocted allegedly by school officials and parents of the students. In March, after the school refused to allow Constance to bring her girlfriend to prom, the Itawamba County School District cancelled the event entirely. McMillen and attorneys from the American Civil Liberties Union sued in court, and a judge ruled that the district was in violation of Constance’s rights, but because the school, in court, assured the judge that a parent sponsored prom was being organized, the court did not order that a prom be held. Under the watchful eye of the school’s principal and several teachers who served as chaperones, Constance and her date, and the other five students, which included two special needs students, spent Friday at a country club while the actual prom took place at an undisclosed location.
