A report on a new study commissioned by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development – HUD – to examine discrimination nationally in the sale of rental of housing to gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and the transgendered. The report’s finding will be released in the spring of 2011, Assistant Secretary Raphael Bostic, who is heading the study, saying “our goal is to provide information – to allow the dialogue to focus on facts rather than preconceived notions.” HUD conducts a major study of discrimination once every ten years, but this is the first time it will examine sexual orientation and gender identity.
