Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, of Denver, Colorado on Tuesday said the decision by Sacred Heart of Jesus parish school in Boulder not to permit two pre-school students to re-enrol because their parents are lesbian has created a “painful situation,” but that the decision was founded in following of church teachings. It was previously reported that there the two woman had only one child currently enrolled in the school, but today the Archbishop clarified that there were in fact two , and that the parents have been told that one of the children could complete kindergarten and the other child could complete preschool, but that neither could continue past this school year. Chaput added that he does not contend God love less the children of gays and lesbians, or that gays and lesbians are innately bad.

In an attempt to counter the recent display of anti-gay bigotry by Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, a delegation of Northern Virginia delegate – Ken Plum, a Democrat from Reston – tried unsuccessfully Tuesday to force a floor vote in the House on a measure that ban discrimination in public employment based on sexual orientation. The vote was 55-42.
