Vodafone, a United Kingdom carrier with a sustainably less than stellar reputation, was forced Friday to issue an apology after the telecommunication’s official Twitter page posted a message during the early afternoon that read “Vodafone UK is fed up of dirty homos and is going after beaver.” Minutes later the post was deleted. The company issued an apology – individually, to all 8,824 of the Twitter page followers, saying “we weren’t hacked. A severe breach of rules by staff in our building, dealing with that internally. We’re very sorry.” The individual, working for the company’s web team, has been suspended pending further investigation.
San Francisco School Board Tuesday will consider whether to add a full time employee to manage “lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning” youth student issues to the district’s Student Support Services Department. The proposed resolution – which is costly, given the financial crisis facing most California public institutions - will require the district to track discrimination and harassment based on sexual orientation as well as distribute educational material to parents, encouraging them to discuss with their children “issues of sexuality, gender identity and safety.”
k.d. lang releases a new retrospective album Tuesday, titled Recollection, and the 49 year old pop cultural pioneer from Consort, Alberta, who insists she always knew she’d be famous, talks about finding lasting love, Cindy Crawford, and meeting an early, interesting Madonna.
An odd fashion spread, from Brazilian magazine Fashion Forward, a series of locker room fantasies seen from a female point of view, featuring a bevy of hot boys. (NSFW)
Congratulations to the New Orleans Saints, winners of Super Bowl XLIV, besting the Indianapolis Colts 31-17, and to Drew Brees, the game’s MVP. Dove for Men, hyper masculine, introduces a new commercial starring Brees, showering, oddly in his shorts, but there is enough gratuitous male flesh to satisfy us all.
The Saints might have won, and yes, Peyton Manning threw the worst pass of his career to date to guarantee the New Orleans victory, but Manning still (and will always) holds a place deep within my heart – and elsewhere.
