The Quebec Gay and Lesbian Council filed a formal complaint Monday with the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council over homophobic comments made by two French language broadcasters regarding the sexual orientation of Johnny Weir. As previously posted, the two RDS commentators suggested Weir hurt the image of figure skating and that he should undergo a gender identity test. The two later apologized on-air.
There are reports that the NCAA and Focus on the Family have partnered, and that CBS, the network that exclusively airs the NCAA men’s basketball tournament helped broker the pairing. In addition to being anti-choice, Focus on the Family is vigorously anti-gay, functioning as a political action committee masquerading as a Christian organization that works to frustrate the progress of gay equality. According to reports, CBS has again sold air time during the highly rated tournamnet of 64 to Focus on the Family to run the series of Tim Tebow and mother advertisements that, while appearing ambiguous, are anti-abortion.
Spencer Tunick, the famed photographer whose best known work is of large installations of nude people, has lost his clothes, literally. The airline Tunick was flying from Hawaii to Sydney, Australia – Qantas - lost his luggage, which includes camera equipment. Tunick is in Sydney ahead of a project to be photographed in front of the city’s famed Opera House on March 1st.
