Gay rights activists in Australia are demanding that a network’s Olympic commentators be terminated after Eddie McGuire and Mick Molloy made comments meant to be comic about men's figure skating, but which were homophobic. While discussing the men’s costumes, Molly said “they don’t leave anything in the locker room, these blokes, do they?” McGuire responded, saying “they don’t leave anything in the closet either.” Later, there was a tired Brokeback Mountain reference among the homophobic banter. Gary Burns has filed a complaint with the New South Wales Anti-Discrimination Board, and has called on Channel Nine to fire the two. “I have lodged a complaint,” said Burns,” because I believe the comments are capable of inciting ridicule, contempt or hate against homosexual Australians. These two men were not out in the backyard having a barbeque with their mates, they’re on national television. They’ve got responsibilities to the broadcaster and to the NSW anti-discrimination act.”
According to reports, American figure skater Johnny Weir, who deserved to medal, and instead finished sixth, is likely to retire after competing at the World Championships in Torino in late March. Weir, who is only 25, is likely to follow a career in fashion rather than aim to compete in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games.
Amsterdam’s Green Left party is proposing that gay men replace straight women who traditionally kiss the winner of the first leg of the Giro d’Italia, one of Europe’s more prestigious bicycle races. Saying that one in every ten rider is gay, Fjodor Molenaar, an alderman with the Green Left party, stated :it should be possible for gay men to celebrate with the winner.”

Is Tiger Woods really, really, really angry because he hasn’t has sex for 45 days or because he was caught cheating having so much sex? The 13 minute press conference that was not really a press conference was one of the most awkward, bizarre spectacles ever, made more so because Woods seemed less contrite and self-righteous, and that isn’t how anyone apologizes. Moreover, why say sorry? I care not, and I doubt anyone else does. The irony of someone who pleads for privacy and then makes public the road to recovery is apparently lost on Tiger and his handlers. Toward the end, Tiger turned towards to camera and said “there are many people in this room and there are many people at home who believed in me. Today i want to ask for your help. I ask you to find room in your heart to one day believe in me again.” Really, people believed in him?
