The first in a series of reports from Uganda on the Anti-Homosexuality Bill of 2009 and the climate it has cultivated, exploring the country’s exaggerated culture of Christianity and the existence (or lack thereof) of a gay community.

The America Civil Liberties Union late Monday accused a Fresno City College science instructor of teaching religious interpretations of abortion and homosexuality as fact. Bradley Lopez has been the subject of several student complaints, some of who contend Lopez stated that human life begins at conception and that homosexuality is a mental illness that degrades society. The ACLU contends Lopez is in violation of California law that protects gays from facing discrimination and prohibits religious indoctrination at public schools.

Garden State Equality, the largest gay advocacy group in New Jersey, announced Monday that it intends to suspend donations to all political parties after being betrayed by Democratic legislators who failed last month to pass a measure legalizing gay marriage.

Marriage Equality Rhode Island has secured a promise from three candidates running for state governor that they will sign into law a gay marriage measure should it be passed by the House and Senate. Attorney General Patrick Lynch and General Treasurer Frank Caprio, each Democrats, as well as former Senator Lincoln Chafee, an independent, have also agreed to attend a gay marriage rally at the statehouse on March 3rd. Rhode Island remains the lone New England state not to have legalized same sex marriage.
