Ugandan activists are calling for the arrest of pretend pastor Martin Ssempa, whose predilection for gay porn raises a lot more questions than answers. Julian Pepe, head of the gay advocacy group Sexual Minorities Uganda, said Ssempa “should be arrested because he is promoting pornography” after Ssempa screened more gay porn to an audience that included minors in another misguided attempt to cultivate support for the proposed Anti-Homosexuality Bill of 2009.
The British Press Complaints Commission is under fire, after it dismissed a complaint filed by Andrew Cowles against Daily Mail columnist Jan Moir, and her hateful, hurtful column on Cowles’s husband Stephen Gately, the Boyzone singer, the day after he was buried last October. Moir wrote that his death was “another blow to the happy-ever-after myth of civil partnerships,” a statement for which she soon apologized, but only after an international backlash. The PCC ruled that Moir’s anti-gay sentiments “just failed to cross the line” of violating its code of practice. Ben Summerskill, the chief executive of Stonewall, the English gay rights advocacy group, said it is now “very difficult to recommend” that any minority complain to PCC given the self-regulating agencies reluctance to act and enforce policy.
Elton John, in an interview with Parade magazine, suggests that “Jesus was a compassionate, super-intelligent gay man who understood human problems. On the cross, he forgave the people who crucified him. Jesus wanted us to be loving and forgiving. I don’t know what makes people so cruel. Try being a gay woman in the Middle East – you’re as good as dead.”
