British Columbia Anti-Gay Christian University Investigated For Violating Academic Freedom, Pope Condemns Gay Equality, Will Obama Attend National Prayer Breakfast, CBS Censures Another Ad, Hot Hunk, Conceptual Artistry Sabotages Fred Phelps Protest

British Columbia’s anti-gay Trinity Western University is appealing a finding by the Canadian Association of University Teachers that determined the university is placing unacceptable and unwarranted constraints on academic freedom by insisting on a sworn statement of faith as a condition of employment and a part of the code of conduct. Three other Canadian universities are also under investigation: Crandall University in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canadian Mennonite University in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Redeemer University in Ancaster, Ontario.

The Pope, ahead of his first United Kingdom tour, tentatively scheduled for September, released a statement condemning gay equality laws in Britain, in particular a ruling that prevents adoption agencies from discriminating against gay couples; a law that effectively eliminated several Catholic adoption agencies. The Pope also took aim at the Harriet Harman equality bill, writing that “the effect of some of the legislation designed to achieve this goal has been to impose unjust limitations on the freedom of religious communities to act in accordance with their beliefs. In some respects it actually violates the natural law upon which the equality of all human beings is grounded and by which it is guaranteed.” The bill, currently before Parliament, would limit the special exemption status currently enjoyed by churches who are allowed to refuse employment to individuals whose lifestyles contradict the ethos of the religious organization.

Will President Obama keep his commitment to address the National Prayer Breakfast this Thursday, despite proof that the sponsor – The Family – has a direct, obvious connection to the recent revelations of violent anti-gay hatred in Uganda and other African countries?

CBS announced it had sold out all spots for the upcoming Super Bowl, the news coming as another advertisement – for KGB – was rejected by the network’s Standards and Practices department.

Cazimir – appropriately named the hunk of the day.
