Testimony Thursday afternoon at the federal trial challenging the constitutional validity of Proposition 8 – the California voter initiative banning gay marriage - with hostile witness for the plaintiffs William Tam taking the stand, Tam stating he opposed gay marriage because he believes that “if the term marriage can be used beyond one man, one woman, the any two persons of any age, of any relationship, can use that same argument to ask for the term marriage. That would lead to incest. That would lead to polygamy. If this is a civil right, what would prevent other groups from asking for the same right.” And although attorneys for the defence attempted to portray Tam as a figure outside of the Prop 8 leadership, therefore not instrumental in the direction and tone of the campaign – Tam testified Thursday that he “was acting independently” - emails were entered as evidence showing Tam regularly communicated with the campaign and was crucial in mobilizing the state’s large Asian community.
This cannot possibly end well: CBS executives gave preliminary approval Thursday to an advertisement for Focus on the Family featuring Tim Tebow and his mother, that is anti-abortion, or to use the organization’s vernacular, pro-family, and that the group intends to air during the Super Bowl February 7th. CBS said that the shooting script did not contain any overt pro-life messages, however they have yet to view the edited, filmed version. Tebow intends to enter the NFL draft and there are a number of reports that suggest teams in several markets would avoid selecting the former Florida Gator’s quarterback because his religious views are loud and obvious. Additionally, Focus on the Family is historically anti-gay.
