By a 5-4 vote, the United States Supreme Court Wednesday prolonged an order barring cameras from televising the Proposition 8 federal trial. In its ruling, the Court wrote that the proponents of the gay marriage ban would “face irreparable harm” if the proceedings were to be broadcast to the public. “It would be difficult, if not impossible, to reverse the harm from those broadcasts. The witnesses, including paid experts, could suffer harassment,” the unsigned decision read, adding that those witnesses “might be less likely to cooperate in any future proceedings.”
