A Reuters video report on the Uganda Anti-Homosexuality Bill of 2009, the horrific legislation to have a second reading before Parliament in February, that proposes increased punishments for suspected gay men and women and for those who fail to report suspected gays and lesbians.
Justin Waller, a 31 year old, was arrested Friday evening in Manchester, Vermont, and will be extradited to New York City shortly to face a charge of second-degree murder in connection with the horrific murder of his live-in partner, 41 year old John Lea. Police say Waller confessed to the killing as well as to using Lea’s credit cards for purchases and for transportation. Lea’s partially clothed body was discovered by police Thursday in his Hell’s Kitchen apartment, after co-workers reported him missing.
Around 200 gathered in from of Utah Capital buildings Saturday, rallying for a “common ground” to be reached in the fight for state-wide civil rights for gays. Keynote speaker Dustin Lance Black told the crowd it needed to peaceful, but persistent in the battle, to share their stories and to make the personal the political. “If people don’t know who they’re voting against,” said Black, “they don’t so much mind taking away our rights. I did not come to Salt Lake City to protest. I came here to introduce myself and to share a message of love and respect.”
Reed Cowan’s 8: The Mormon Proposition premiers Sunday at the Sundance Film Festival, the documentary, narrated by Dustin Lance Black, detailing the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints decades of anti-gay teachings to support its political activism and that the church tried to disguise its role as critical component of the conservative faction that supported the anti-gay marriage voter initiative.
