The New York Times on one of the worst kept secrets: that many successful gay marriages – and by extension, relationships – are open in modern way that straight marriages could never be.

The Times also reports that Tuesday, Defence Secretary Robert Gates will announce that the Pentagon will end discharges based on third-party accusations, but that the movement to reverse the ban itself will take at least two years.
The creator of All My Children Agnes Nixon tells Entertainment Weekly that she is most proud of introducing an AIDS storyline, as well as having Erica Kane’s daughter come out, saying both had an enormous impact. “When Erica’s daughter, Bianca, came out as a lesbian, I got letters from gay women saying, ‘if only I had seen this show when I was teenager.’ Eden Riegel became on the most popular young actors on daytime. I had the sense to wait, to know that there’d be a lot of people who were prejudiced, homophobic, so we had to wait until we could make her Erica’s daughter. You have to be sneaky sometimes, because viewers wanted to watch and see what Erica’s reaction would be.”
