New Jersey Senate Gay Marriage Vote Thursday, American Foundation For Equal Rights Update, Support That Prop 8 Trial Be Televised, Arrests In Buffalo Hate Crime Attack, Arrest In Michigan Hate Crime Attack

The New Jersey Senate has scheduled a vote for Thursday on legislation to make legal gay marriage in the state. Senate President Richard Codey made the announcement early Tuesday afternoon, saying that the citizens of New Jersey “deserve the right to a formal debate on the Senate floor. “

The American Foundation for Equal Rights, the backers of the federal lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of California’s gay marriage ban – Proposition 8 – in advance of the trail’s commencement next week, has expanded its website, preparing for Monday, when Justice Vaughn Walker will begin the historic hearing in San Francisco.

The Courage Campaign has sent out an email today, an alert that the Justice Vaughn Walker’s court wants public input on whether the proceedings should be televised. The deadline for comments for and against is Friday and there is a petition to sign.

Two Buffalo, New York women, 18 year old Joy Darden and 19 year old Deonna Burnett, have been charged with committing a hate crime. The two allegedly used a number of anti-gay insults while threatening, and then viciously attacking a 20 year old gay man near the Macy’s of the Walden Galleria, early afternoon, on New Year’s Eve day. The man was harassed and threatened inside the mall by a group of ten, following outside where he was pepper sprayed, beaten, and robbed. The man’s car was also vandalized. The two women are charged with robbery, grand larceny, aggravated harassment, and criminal mischief, but if convicted of committed a hate crime, will face stiffer sentence because of the New York State Hate Crimes Act.

Police in Benton Township, Michigan, have arrested 23 year old Calvin Wright, charged with aggravated assault after an attack December 12th outside a gas station against a gay man, beaten, targeted he alleges, because of his sexual orientation.
