Patricia Kaliati, the Malawi Minister of Women and Child Development, says she has had expelled from her constituency a women she suspects to be a lesbian. Nellie Somanje, a 42 year old businesswoman, was told to leave the small town of Mkando, told “she must leave the area in order to protect vulnerable girls.” In November Somanje was arrested and charged with gross indecency after two teenage girls who worked for her complained that Somanje was forcing them to have to intercourse. The charges were quite quickly dropped, but Kaliati has conducted something akin to harassment in order to drive the woman from the area.

A delegation of gay and Latino New York City and Illinois state legislators travelled to Puerto Rico Tuesday to meet with the family of slain 19 year Jorge Steven Lopez Mercado, a show of support and also of condemnation for the abysmal lack of leadership by local elected officials since Mercado badly burned and dismembered body was found abandoned along a deserted country road late last year.

The suspect in a September 24th gay bashing in New York City has been found, and he is Air Force Sergeant Benjamin Ford, a 27 year old accused of an hate crime assault against three gay men.
