Casey Johnson, the Johnson & Johnson heiress, has died. She was 30. The cause of death is under investigation, Johnson reportedly having been deceased for several days before her body was discovered.
Jim Hutton, the partner of the late Freddy Mercury, has died, succumbing to a battle with cancer on January 1st. Hutton, who worked as a hairdresser, was with the Queen singer for the last six years of Mercury’s life, present at his bedside when he died on November 24th, 1991 from AIDS related complications.
Brad L. Graham, a social media pioneer who coined the term “blogosphere,” has died. He was 41. At this time, the cause of the death in not known.
Anise Parker, openly gay, was publically sworn in Monday as the mayor of Houston, Texas, and despite the small contingent of anti-gay protestors, the ceremony was celebratory and festive, Parker joined by her life partner Cathy Hubbard. Lakewood Church Senior Pastor Joel Osteen gave the opening prayer. Acknowledging the obvious, Parker took time to speak to “my community, to those who are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered. I understand how much this day means. I feel your excitement and your joy, your apprehension and your longing for acceptance. I will gladly carry you forward. But today is simply one step toward a tomorrow of greater justice. And when the time comes, I will just as gladly pass the torch to the next in waiting, and I will cheer for them as you do me.”
