A report on Junaid Bin Jahangir, a gay Muslim scholar, a self-described “pariah” to his own community, who works in Edmonton, Alberta offering education and support to other gay Muslims, and who wants nothing more than to generate a conversation among Muslims that would marry the teaching of the Islam with acceptance of homosexuality.

Another hideous alleged homophobic hate crime that took place in Butler, New Jersey on December 26th and that left 23 year old Jesse Allard hospitalized, suffering from injuries he sustained after being assaulted and run over. According to Allard, he had gone to the Trackside Bar and Grill to celebrate his birthday. Inside the establishment, he complimented another patron on the coat he was wearing. “He called me a fag and he told me don’t ever touch him again,” Jesse said in an interview, “So I was like, ‘Well, I’m sorry I’m just complimenting your coat.’” Allard then explained that a man he believes is the owner of the bar dragged him outside to a nearby parking lot, once in the parking lot; Allard was held while another man punched him in the face, took his cell phone, smashed it and threw it away. After the assault, Allard sought help, attempting to stop a motorist to call for the police. Allard contends that the driver was an off-duty officer, who would not help. While still in the street, a Jeep accelerated from behind him, nearly running him over. To date, no one from the local police department has answered any questions, and it is unclear if an investigation has been initiated.
