Calgary Church Loses Tax Exempt Status Espousing Inordinate Anti-Abortion And Anti-Gay Views, Hawaii Senate Approves Civil Union Bill, Arrest Made In Buffalo Gay Bashing, James Mitchell, Wyoming Equates Anti-Defamation League To Gay Agenda, Super Sexy Joey Kirchner, Zachary Quinto Remains Unmoved

There are reports that the troubled and troubling Kings Glory Fellowship Association, a non-denominational Protestant group has had it charitable status revoked because the church, centered in Calgary, Alberta, spent more than 10 percent of its time on “non-partisan political activities.” A memo sent in October of 2009 by the Canada Revenue Agency read in part “we note ... the members of the Board of Directors espouse strong negative views about sensitive and controversial issues, which may also be viewed as political, such as abortion, homosexuality, divorce, etc.” The head,

As expected, late Friday the Hawaii Senate passed a civil union bill by a majority veto proof vote of 18-7. The Senate also voted to reject an amendment to change the effective date of the bill, which will remain January 1st, 2010. The bill, which would allow same sex and opposite sex couples to enter into civil unions and have the right to receive the same rights, benefits, and responsibilities as those afforded married opposite couples, now goes before the state House.

21 year old Susan Grover has been arrested and charged with second-degree assault in connection to an attack on 29 year old Lindsay Harmon that took place early New Year’s Day in Buffalo, New York. She is currently being held in custody. Frank Sedita, the Erie Country District Attorney said he intends to seek an indictment under the New York State Hate Crime Statute. Harmon, who is still recovering from having her eye slashed, said she and her partner cried upon hearing that an arrest had been made.

Actor James Mitchell, who starred in the film version of Oklahoma as well as Band Wagon, has died. He was 89. In addition to film work, Mitchell had a distinguished theatre career, but is perhaps best known for his thirty year stint on the daytime drama All My Children, as Palmer Cortlandt. Although he never publically acknowledged his sexuality, Mitchell was gay and he is survived by his long time partner Albert Wolsky.

In Wyoming, Platte County School District 1 trustees voted 4-3 remove Anti-Defamation League “No Place for Hate” banners from both Wheatland High School and West Elementary because one of three sponsors of the banners is the Gay and Lesbian Fund for Colorado. The other two are Qwest and the David and Laura Merage Foundation. The anti-hate campaign is running in a total of twenty-five schools in both Colorado and Wyoming. Wheatland board member Joe Fabian, in explaining his vote, said that the Anti-Defamation League had an “agenda that is pro-gay marriage.”
