Thousands gathered in London Friday night, at Trafalgar Square, in the city’s center to mourn 62 year old Ian Baynham, the gay man who succumbed to injuries he suffered on September 25th, the victim of a violent gay bashing. Mourners, who spelt out NO HATE in hundreds of lit candles, told of a man who grew up in a time when being gay was still illegal, and was kept secret, of a loving man who had a relationship that lasted decades, and of someone who challenged homophobia, who fought against intolerance and hate. Police believe that Baynham confronted three teens – strangers all – who yelled a number of anti-gay slurs, the group then assaulting him, punching and kicking him so badly that he never regained consciousness, and died in hospital two weeks after the attack.
There is a vigil planned Sunday evening in Liverpool, at the site of yet another gay bashing that took place a week ago, badly injuring 22 year old police trainee James Parkes. The attack against Parkes resonated for Police Constable Mark Carter, with the West Yorkshire force, openly gay, the winner in fact of the 2006 Mr. Gay UK, who says that the targeted attack on Parkes underlines the homophobia that sits uneasily beneath the surface of society, who said that tackling homophobia is “not about pushing the ‘gay’ word up people’s noses, it is about standing up for what is right,” adding that gays “mustn’t live in fear: we all need to shout a clear message that we will no longer accept attacks made on people because of their sexual identity.”
USA Network’s White Collar is a surprise hit for the still fledging cable company, largely because of the show’s star, one tall dark drink of smoking sexiness by the name of Matthew Bomer. Bomer was outed this past week by a blogger who has a predilection for doing that, publishing photographs on Boner with another man, and reporting that he was involved in a long term relationship with an openly gay man, Simon Hall, the CEO of PMK/HBH, a frightening large, influential public relations firm. The firm, while neither confirming nor denying whether Bomer was out, asked the blogger to remove pictures, which he did not, although Boy Culture and Greg In Hollywood, who both reported the story, did remove the pictures, at the request, reportedly, of Bomer’s friends. What is strikingly odd, of course, is that his sexuality should be kept such a poorly kept secret at all – PMK/HBH after all, handles Neil Patrick Harris – although there are theories that USA Network is nervous that if it Bomer being gay were to be conventional wisdom, the female demographic would be, um, well,

Gavin Newsom Withdraws From California Governor Race, Randy Thomasson Harasses, Cheyenne Jackson, Scott Speedman, John Huetter, Robert Perovich
San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom announced late Friday that he is withdrawing from the California governor’s race. Newsom said that “with a young family and responsibilities at City Hall, I have found it impossible to commit the time required to complete this effort the way it needs to – and should be – done.” State Attorney General Jerry Brown, who was governor, is now expected to be the Democratic frontrunner, although Brown has yet to formally announce his candidacy.
Homosexual obsessed Randy Thomasson, he the head of the viciously anti-gay group SaveCalifornia.com, is urging followers to harass California public school districts and tell them to reject the introduction of the just passed Harvey Milk Day.
Cheyenne Jackson is scheduled to appear on 30 Rock, beginning in November, as the newest cast member of the fictionalized show within a show, Jackson’s character a nephew of Liz Lemon, and gay.
Scott Speedman, seen out and about Thursday in Los Angeles, California, has become a bit of a bear.
Meet male model John Huetter.
Famed filmmaker and photographer Jean-Baptiste Mondino, whose work in the nineteen-eighties was sexy and stunning, has returned, Mondino directing the new campaign for Jean-Paul Gaultier’s fragrance, starring the smoking hot Canadian male model Robert Perovich.

Obama Lifts HIV Immigration/Travel Ban, James Parkes Partner Speaks, Vigil For Ian Baynham, Tallahassee Gay Victory. Debating Maine Marriage Question
On Friday, as expected, American President Barack Obama announced that his administration was lifting the longstanding travel ban and immigration to the United States by HIV positive persons. In signing an extension of the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Bill, Obama said that the previous policy was “rooted in fear, rather than fact.” He added that former President George W. Bush and Congress have initiated the changes and that they should be commended for their work.
Tom Downy, the partner of James Parkes, the Liverpool police officer attacked by at least twenty teens last Sunday evening, said that he and Parkes have been “overwhelmed” by “an immense amount of support” the two have received, but added that he was upset, Parkes still in hospital, in stable condition, his condition improving. Downey said that he hoped as many people as possible would turn out Sunday evening in Liverpool for a vigil in honor of Parkes and as a condemnation of the continued violence directed towards homosexuals. To date twelve individuals have been arrested in connection to the gay bashing, all of them teens.
There is a vigil Friday evening in London, in Trafalgar Square, the site of the gay bashing of 62 year old Ian Baynham, who died from injuries he sustained after he was attacked viscously by three teens on September 25th. The vigil will also honor James Parkes, and the number of other victims of hate crimes worldwide. A moment of silence will occur at 21:00 GMT.
On Wednesday, in Tallahassee, Florida, the City Commission voted unanimously to extend its benefits policy to include same sex couples and domestic partnerships. Mayor John Marks said “Quite frankly, I was surprised we have not done this a long time ago. All individuals should be treated equally.”
An estimated five hundred people attended a debate Wednesday night, at the University of Southern Maine, most wearing a No On 1 button to indicate their support for the State’s same sex marriage law, both sides of the referendum offering predictions of sorts as to how gay marriage will affect society. Brian Souchet, representative of Stand for Marriage Maine, who organized the repeal of the gay marriage law passed in May, said that marriage, as defined as that between a man and woman, would “come together to bring forth the next generation of society,” and added that inequalities could be better addressed through domestic registry programs rather than redefining the tradition of marriage. Mary Bonauto, speaking for No On 1/Protect Maine Equality, said she expected the results of the referendum vote set for November 3rd to “razor-thin” and that only “civil, governmental marriage” will provide equality and protection to all, including gay families. “All of us,” she said, “deserve no less that equal protection.”

Trial Of Oshawa Man Accused In Attack On Lesbians, Kenya Gay Census, Argentina, Chaz Bono, Levi Johnston, Anderson Cooper And Boyfriend In India
In Oshawa, Ontario Wednesday, the trail of Mark Scott began, Scott accused of two counts of assault causing bodily harm in connection to the beating of a couple, Jane Currie, and her partner Angela Dimitrou, while the three picked up their respective children from an area elementary. On the stand Wednesday, Currie told of how Scott had used a number of anti-gay slurs against Dimitrou, before, on November 3rd, 2008, Scott punched her in the face. Ms Currie said that she ran to defend her partner and that she was savagely attacked. She said she “smashed right in the face, my cheeks burst on impact, there was blood everywhere.” Scott has pleaded not guilty to both charges, and alleges he was the victim of repeated racist attacks by the women.
In Kenya, official have begun carrying out a census of the country’s gay population in order to combat the spread of HIV/AIDS, that despite homosexuality being illegal, punishable by up to a fourteen year prison sentence. However, Nicholas Muraguri, the head of the Kenyan AIDS prevention program, said that it was vital that the government reach out to the gay community, in order to save lives. “Kenyans cannot actually afford to say that the gay community are isolated somewhere in the corner,” Muraguri said, “They are a part of our lives. This group must be reached with information and services so they know how to protect themselves from getting infected.”
On Friday, the Argentina House of Representatives will begin debating two bills meant to amend the definition of marriage in the country, and afford same sex couples the right to marry. Over 70% of Argentines favor legalizing gay marriage.
Chaz Bono appeared Wednesday in part one of a two part interview with Mary Hart, the son of Sonny and Cher talking for the first time about his transition from female to male, Chaz saying that although his breast have been removed, penile reconstructive surgery might not be an option. “I believe gender is something between your ears, not your legs,” adding that the transitioning process will take anywhere between four to five years.
It has been confirmed that Levi Johnston will reveal all when he poses for Playgirl, some photographs involving little more than a jockstrap and skates, others involving much less.
Anderson Cooper whose sexuality is a poorly kept secret for reasons Cooper himself likely does not comprehend, is in Jaipur, India staying at the fabulous Rambagh Palace (3,200 dollars a night) with his boyfriend, the meaty and muscular Benjamin Maisani. The twosome, seen below, were spotted in late June, in New York City, biking, wearing coordinating Fred Perry polo shirts.

Man Charged In Winnipeg Bathhouse Fire, Judge Rules Maine Can Request NOM Reveal Donors, Larry Johnson Suspended, His Father Hurt By Son's Words
Winnipeg, Manitoba police have charged 25 year old Justin Rosdobutko with two counts of manslaughter in connection to a fire set at a city bathhouse on October 11th that killed two men – 23 year old Steven Yablonski and 62 year old Robert Clark. Police have Rosdobutko in custody and are investigated the motivation behind the man’s actions, and as of now do not believe that he had a relationship with either of the men killed.
On Wednesday, United States Judge D. Brock Hornby ruled that the state of Maine is well within its rights to request that the National Organization for Marriage, the group leading the fight to repeal Maine’s just passed gay marriage law, disclose the identities of donors who contributed to that battle, dismissing a lawsuit filed last week by NOM that argued the Maine’s reporting requirements violated First Amendments rights guaranteed b the American Constitution. Maine’s Ethics and Elections Practices Commission voted on October 1st to conduct an investigation into the fundraising practices of NOM, but the investigation will not likely be completed till well after the November 3rd vote that asks State voters to decide whether to reject the same sex marriage bill approved by the governor in May.
The Kansas City Chiefs have suspended running back Larry Johnson for two weeks, one of which is a bye week, the other a game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The suspension will cost him an estimated 600,000 dollars, and is the penalty for anti-gay slurs the NFL Pro Bowl player made in a little less than twenty-four hours, beginning Sunday night after a Chiefs loss to the San Diego Chargers at home 37-7, and Monday in the Kansas locker room. Johnson’s agent, Peter Schaffler, said “we will be filing an appeal on behalf of Larry. While we respect the Chief’s ability to try to discipline a player, we disagree and respectfully disagree that the punishment they purpose is warranted by the facts.
Meanwhile, Johnson’s father, 56 year old Larry Johnson Sr. said that he was among those hurt by his son’s anti-gay comments, the elder Johnson stating that he worked hard to impress upon his son and his other children to treat others with compassion, and to consider everyone equal regardless of race, gender, beliefs, or sexual orientation. “This is not who we are and not what we believe. It’s not how he was raised.”

Obama’s Remarks On Signing Hate Crime Bill, Golden Girl’s Gay Agenda, Project Runway Homophobic, Mistaking Michael Buble For Gay, Sarah Palin Attacks
American President Barack Obama signed The Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act into law Wednesday, an amendment to the hate crimes bill passed in 1969, shortly after the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. The legislation, which has been, in some or another, a contentious proposition for over ten years, will afford federal law enforcement the power to prosecute violent crimes motivated by the victim’ actual or perceived sexual orientation, gender, gender identity and disability. Obama spoke early Wednesday evening – the complete text available here – and he said that “time and again, the measure was defeated or delayed. Time and again we’ve been reminded of the difficulty of the building a nation in which we’re all free to live and love as we see fit. But the cause endured and the struggle continued, waged by the family of Matthew Shepard, by the family of James Byrd, by folks who held vigils and led marches, by those rallied and organized and refused to give, by the late Senator Ten Kennedy who fought so hard for this legislation and for all who toiled for years to reach this day.”
An essay, or angry manifesto, that purports to expose the hidden gay agenda at work in the Golden Girls, a television show that “turned a generation of American boys into homosexuals,” the sitcom “seizing upon (an) opportunity to cross the hormonal wires of America’s lost generation.” What is most disconcerting, aside from the numbing numbers of grotesque stereotypes the author – one Stephenson Billings, who suggests he is “an investigative journalist, motivational children’s party entertainer and antique soda bottle collector – is how salacious, how sexual the writing actually is, as if to reveal some deep, long repressed longings. Seriously, it has to be read to be believed.
Project Runway guilty of editing homosexual relationships between contestants or is the gayer than gay reality show simply being discrete? An argument that the series, now in season six, is a tad homophobic is well made.
In an interview with the London Sun, Michael Buble confesses that when he first met his current girlfriend, Argentinean actress Luisana Lopilato, she thought he was gay.
Sarah Palin, failed Republican vice-presidential candidate and former Alaskan governor until she quit, is very upset with the CBS Television Network and very, very, very upset with Levi Johnston. Very upset.

Scientology Refutes Claims It Is Homophobic, Family Research Council Insists Gay Don’t Age, Adam Lambert Defends Album Art, Channing Tatum, Lance Bass
Tommy Davis, head of the Church of Scientology Celebrity Center in Los Angeles, California, and the de facto spokesperson, said that allegations made by director Paul Haggis that the church is actively, vigorously homophobic is untrue, and David disputes claims that a branch of Scientology in San Diego contributed to the passage of Proposition 8. “Church of Scientology San Diego had been put on a list of churches that supported Proposition 8 out in California, “Davis said, “It was incorrectly included and named when it should have never been on the list to begin with. “ Davis added that Haggis knew that, but that he wanted “the church to have an active political stance and the church is prohibited from doing so.” He then emphasized that Scientology “supports civil rights for everybody, regardless of sexual orientation, race, color, or creed.” David did not, however, address Haggis’s insistence that the church practices disassociation techniques, a process when the church member is intentionally cut off from family members.
Tony Perkin’s Family Research Council – the violently anti-gay pretend watchdog organization – is complaining about the Obama administrations plan to create a National Resource Center for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered Elders, calling the plan a part of the President’s “radical social agenda.” The FRC suggests, stunningly, with a hate so transparent, that the plan by the Health and Human Services is a “waste” of federal funds because “given the risks of homosexual conduct, these people are less likely to live long enough to become senior citizens!”
Wednesday morning, Adam Lambert took to his Twitter account to suggest that the reaction to Tuesday’s unveiling of the cover art for his debut album, For Your Entertainment, was meant to be ironic, a homage to the past, posting “it IS ridiculous.”
Channing Tatum was seriously scalded Wednesday on the Scottish set of the new movie Eagle in Ninth, Tatum attended to by paramedics, treated and recovering.
Career gay Lance Bass out and about in Miami, Florida Tuesday night with his new man, one he has been seeing for at least a whole month now.

American Hate Crimes Bill Beginning Of End, James Parkes’ Parents Speak, Larry Johnson Apologizes Awkwardly, Allegations Rugby Club Chooses Looks
Late today, American President Obama is scheduled to sign into law the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act, which amends a 1969 federal hate crimes bill to include crimes committed because of a victims actual or perceived gender, their sexual orientation, gender identity, or a disability. The bill does not address hate, only the consequences of hate, the actions motivated by hate, but it does offer protection, and will likely offer solace to the victims of hate crimes, and of bigotry. It does not, moreover, level the field, affording equality to hundreds of thousands of gay men and women in the United States. As the Washington Post rightly point out in an editorial from Wednesday, there are more profound pieces of legislation that need the President’s signature, the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act and of the military ban on serving openly among them. The Employment Non-Discrimination Act too.
Ann and Ron Parkes, the parents of 22 year old James Parkes, the trainee police officer attacked and bashed by as many as twenty youths Sunday, outside a popular gay club in Liverpool, England, issued a statement praising authorities, thanking the public for their support, and condemning those who assaulted their son and are still at large. James remains in a Merseyside hospital in poor condition, doctors saying the next 24 hours are crucial to his recovery. To date, twelve youths have been arrested in connection to the attack, all males, ranging in age from 13 to 17. A vigil has been planned this Sunday at the site of the attack and hundreds are expected to attend.
Late Tuesday, Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson apologized for using a number of anti-gay slurs Sunday on his then public Twitter account and on Monday in the Chiefs’ locker room, a comment directed towards a gathering of media. “I regret my actions,” Johnson said in a written statement read by a spokesperson, “The words were used by me in frustration, and they were not appropriate. I did not mean to offend anyone, but that is no excuse for what I said.” The NFL and the Chiefs are investigating and Johnson has been ordered to stay away from the team until both investigations are complete.
Ewen McKenzie, who was recently let go as a coach from France’s top 14 rugby team Stade Francais, says that the club, which annually publishes the Dieux du Stade calendar featuring nude and semi-nude photographs of team members, is sacrificing athletic talent for physical appearance. Club president Max Guazzini refuted the claim, suggesting that McKenzie was attempting to justify his dismissal. He has since been hired by a team in Australia.

Maine Marriage Question, Maine Governor Endorses No On 1, Tena Callahan, Nevada Parents Sue To Stop Laramie Project And Rent, Adam Lambert
Less than one week until Maine votes on Question 1, which asks “Do you want to reject the new law that lets same sex couples marry and allows individuals and religious group to refuse to perform these marriages?” The law, signed by Governor John Baldacci in May, who is on record as once having supported civil unions, but now supports gay marriage, was to take effect in September, but the law’s fate will be decided by voters November 3rd, and the stakes for both proponents and opponents of same sex marriage could not be higher.
On Tuesday, Governor Baldacci, accompanied by members of the No On 1/Protect Maine Equality, endorsed voting no on the referendum, to, in effect, vote against repealing the gay marriage law.
Texas Judge Tena Callahan says it was the words of American President Abraham Lincoln printed on a small red bag – “Let us have faith that right makes might and in that faith, let us to the end dare to do our duty as we understand it – that led her to declare the State’s amendment that defines marriage as that only existing between a man and a woman unconstitutional because it is in violation of the United States Constitution’s equal protection clause. She made the decision when she ruled on October 1st that divorce proceedings between two men, married in 2006 in Massachusetts, could proceed in Texas.
Parents of students at the Green Valley High School in Henderson, Nevada, a suburb of Las Vegas, filed a five page lawsuit late Friday seeking a court injunction to stop the scheduled performances of The Laramie Project and of Rent from opening as scheduled on November 16th. The brief claims that the plays in question are too adult in nature, and therefore violate the Clark County School District’s policy that bans restricted material from being performed.
Adam Lambert released the cover art of his debut album – For Your Entertainment – and, um, well, I do not like it at all. It’s so eighties, but absent irony, and that can never work.
Lambert, meanwhile, escorted Katy Perry at the Los Angeles, California premier of This Is It, the Michael Jackson documentary film that goes into a limited engagement Wednesday, the twosome joined by Jennifer Lopez, Jennifer Love-Hewitt, and, um, JC Chasez.

Catholic Church Condemns Gays Praises Terrorists, Jamaica Might Be Homophobic, Glee Christmas, Lilith Fair, Michael Phelps, Zachary Quinto
In July, Guam legislators introduced a bill – Bill 185 – that, if passed, would afford domestic partnerships to same sex couples. Not surprisingly, the Catholic Church is opposed, violently opposed in fact, the island’s archdioceses releasing a three page letter to the media that condemned homosexuals while praising the moral fortitude of Islamic terrorists. “The culture of homosexuality is a culture of self-absorption because it does not value self-sacrifice,” the letter in part reads, “Islamic fundamentalists clearly understands the damage that homosexual behavior inflicts on culture. That is why such they repress such behavior by death.” It continues “any culture that is able to produce wave after wave of suicide bombers (women as well as men) is a culture that at least knows how to value self-sacrifice.”
An editorial from The Gleaner, the Jamaica’s oldest newspaper of record, takes the sitting parliament and the country’s culture to task for its obvious homophobia, which, it is suggested, is something of a contrived posture.

Britain Reviews Gay Men Blood Ban Policy, Liverpool Post-James Parkes, Scientology Convicted Of Fraud, Brad Pitt Natural, Levi Johnston To Enthrall
In England, the Government has requested that the Advisory Committee on the Safety of Blood, Tissues, and Organs deliver recommendations in early 2010 that would contribute to plans to reverse that country’s ban preventing gay and bisexual men from donating blood. Currently, as in Canada, men who have has sex with other men are banned for life from donating blood as a part, presumably, of measures meant to reduce the risk of contaminating blood with the HIV infection, though that skewed logic has long been refuted, and the evidence employed to draft the original policy is out of date.
In the wake of the viscous gay bashing by teens of 22 year old James Parkes, an openly gay police trainee, the gay community in Liverpool, England is calling for more protection from what appears to be a surge in the number of homophobic attacks in the country, and more education at all levels on inclusion and tolerance.
In Paris, a court convicted the Church of Scientology of fraud, fining the church, that after investigators found that officials pressured members into paying large amounts of money for “questionable financial gain” and that “commercial harassment” was employed against new members.
Brad Pitt appears on the cover of Cut magazine, absent airbrushing.
According to a spokesperson for Playgirl, the pictures of Levi Johnston will be out before the holidays, adding “we’re working out the actual details day-by-day, and have come to a very conclusion, which we feel readers will be enthralled by,” enthralled apparently code for full frontal nudity.

Dustin Lance Black Barred From Speaking At Michigan College, NFL’s Running Back’s Homophobic Outburst, Updating James Parkes’ Condition
Dustin Lance Black has been barred from speaking at a Hope College campus symposium on sexuality because the Dean of Students though Black to be too divisive a voice because of his gay rights advocacy. An invitation extended by students and by the English Department is being rescinded after Richard Frost said that speakers with strong opinions do not usually further discussions about gay, lesbian, or transgendered issues, instead their obvious point of view tends to marginalize those on the opposing side. Black, who is in Western Michigan filming What’s Wrong with Virginia, was scheduled to speak sometime in November, and expressed surprise that his appearance would be seen as controversial.
Kansas City Chiefs’ running back Larry Johnson employed a number of anti-gay slurs Monday, hours after he took to Twitter to lambast Kansas coach Todd Hayley and there too used a number of homophobic insults, including describing another Twitter users’ profile picture as being a “fag pic” and calling the person a “Christopher street boy.” Johnson’s Twitter account quite quickly after was protected and the offending posts deleted. Monday, in the locker room Johnson, when questioned by local media, said he would not address reporters till Thursday, then, turning to walk away, whispered to no one in particular, “get your faggot asses out of here.” Johnson’s agent, Peter Schaffer, late Monday said that the Twitter incident was a misunderstanding, Schaffer saying that Johnson “was trying to make a statement about his dad, and obviously he didn’t articulate it well.” Schaffer added that Monday’s locker room outburst was “a combination of being embarrassed or frustrated that what he said was taken out of context. We’re going to be putting out an apology for it. Not necessarily what he said but his choice of words.” The Chiefs, who have a bye week, are 1-6 to date.
More details on the gay bashing of 22 year old James Parkes in Liverpool, England Sunday night. Parkes, who is openly gay, was out with his partner, another man, and a woman, and was leaving the gay club Superstar Boudoir when he was attacked by a number of youths. Four males, one 17 year old, two 15 year olds, and a 14 year old, have been arrested in connection with the assault, which police having ruled a hate crime, and Parkes, who began training as a police community support officer in Merseyside, remains in critical condition in hospital, having sustained several injuries. Detective Chief Inspector Tim Keelan said “we are treating the assault as a homophobic hate crime and this incident shows there are still some people who have not learnt that crimes of this type are completely unacceptable.”

Liverpool Gay Bashing Victim Identified, Justice Walker Denies Prop 8 Proponents Stall Tactics, Prop 8 Sidebar, Transgendered Elected Homecoming Queen
An update on the posting about a 22 year old gay man in Liverpool, England, viscously assaulted Sunday evening by a group of some thirteen teenagers, with reports now naming the man who remains in hospital as James Parkes, a trainee constable with the Merseyside Police.
Chief United States Justice Vaughn Walker has denied a request by the proponents of Proposition 8 to delay submitting the organization’s campaign strategy documents to attorneys seeking evidence of anti-gay bias. The Proposition 8 opponents are looking for hints that the entire campaign was built around ideas of discrimination, and if found, to consequently repeal the constitutional amendment passed last year effectively eliminating the right of gay men and women to marry in California.
Meanwhile, reports are that Justice Walker, described by most as the paradigm of fair, legal mind, continues to offer hints that he is leaning in favor of reversing Proposition 8, underscored by his demand that anti-gay marriage proponents prove in court that the history and purpose of marriage is solely to procreate, and that there is evidence allowing same sex couples the right to wed will damage society irrevocably.
Quite quietly this past Saturday the College of William and Mary made history, elected their first transgendered homecoming queen, Jessee Vasold, at halftime during a football game between the college and James Madison University.

Gay Man Attacked In Liverpool By Gang Of Teens, Candle Light Vigil For Christopher Skinner, Washington D.C. Gay Marriage Protests, Levi Johnston
A 22 year old gay man in Liverpool, England is in hospital with life threatening injuries, including multiple skull fractures, a fractured eye socket, and a fractured cheekbone after he was attacked Sunday. The attack comes as the city prepares to celebrate its 6th annual gay festival, Homotopia. The 22 year old was out with three friends at approximately 10:00 PM when he was attacked by a group of at least 13, all of whom were between the ages of 15 and 18. A 14 year old and two 15 year olds have been arrested in connection to the assault, which police have quite quickly deemed a hate crime, and the area where the assault took place remains closed while forensic teams investigate.
More coverage of Sunday evening’s vigil for 27 year old Christopher Skinner held in Toronto, Ontario, police there still searching for a black SUV that ran Skinner over in the early morning hours of Sunday, October 18th, while Skinner lay on the ground, having been knocked down by one or more of the vehicle’s occupants.
In Washington, D.C. Sunday, a protest, and a counter-protest over a proposed piece of legislation that would legalize gay marriage in the district. The opponents of the bill want a voter amendment to appear on a ballot that would ask residents to either approve defining marriage as that only existing between a man and woman, or to reject that definition. To have the measure appear on a ballot, however, supporters must convince the elections board that the amendment does not discriminate against homosexuals, a task whose success seems unlikely.
Levi Johnston, in an interview, said he is not nervous at all about posing nude for Playgirl, the 19 year old Levi adding, amply confident, “what’s to be nervous about? I guess some people would be nervous to pose, but I’m not. I’m ready to do it. I’m feeling confident. I’ve got nothing to hide.”

Chris Skinner’s Parents Speak Out, Chris Skinner Vigil, Zachary Quinto Attends LA Gay And Lesbian Center Celebration, Footloose Loses Director
Warren and Ellen Fisher said Sunday they want justice to be served in the death of their 27 year old son Chris, struck down during an altercation last Sunday in the downtown of Toronto, Ontario, then run over by the driver of a black SUV. The dispute might have originated because Skinner appears to have touched the SUV as it passed.Police are still searching for the occupants of the vehicle, contending that there might have been as many as four individuals inside. Skinner, a gay man, was reportedly hailing a taxi at the time of his death, having left his sister’s birthday party shortly after 2:00 AM. While Chris’s father said “we want the driver. I think everyone wants the driver,” his mother said “you talk about the driver, he means nothing to me … he’s not even human. A human has a heart and a soul and knows the difference between right and wrong.”
Meanwhile, Sunday evening, more than 1000 people marched in silence from the corner of Church and Wellesley, the center of Toronto’s gay community, south toward the corner of Adelaide and Victoria Streets, where Skinner was killed. Carrying candles, roses, and rainbow flags, they remembered the 27 year old sharing stories and memories of the young man whose life many contend was taken because he was gay.
Zachary Quinto was on hand Saturday night helping the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center celebrated its 38th Anniversary Gala, the event hosted by Chelsea Handler, honored Wanda Sykes and Miss Coco Peru.

Kenny Ortega has dropped out as director of the Footloose sequel, citing creative differences. According to reports, Ortega, who directed all three High School Musicals and the upcoming Michael Jackson This Is It, wanted to make an elaborate musical and Paramount wanted something edgier, with little emphasis on dance and song. Chace Crawford is still set to star alongside Dancing with the Stars’ Julianne Hough, the film scheduled to begin principle photography in March, 2010.

Paul Haggis Leaves Scientology Citing Church Proposition 8 Involvement
Paul Haggis, the Academy Award writer and director behind films like Crash and Million Dollar Baby, has left the Church of Scientology and has done so in a very public manner and one that has highlighted Scientology’s involvement in the passage of Proposition 8, the ballot amendment that passed on November 4th, 2008, and effectively eliminated the right of gay men and women to marry in California. Haggis, and his wife, Deborah Rennard (who, according to reports, came to the church through her parents, then, when her parents were banished after violating a church code, was ordered not to have any contact with them) wrote a letter to Tommy Davis, the head of the Church of Scientology’s Celebrity Center in Los Angeles, California, that in part read “for ten months now I have been writing to ask you to make a public statement denouncing the actions of the Church of Scientology of San Diego. Their public sponsorship of Proposition 8, a hate-filled legislation that succeeded in taking away the civil rights of gay and lesbian citizens of California – rights that were granted them by the Supreme Court of our state – shames us.” Haggis continues that he spoke to Davis about his concerns, which were not addressed, adding that “the church’s refusal to denounce the actions of these bigots, hypocrites, and homophobes is cowardly. I can think of no other word. Silence I consent, Tommy. I refuse to consent.”

Christopher Skinner Vigil Sunday Night Toronto, Police Release New Video Of Skinner, Suspects SUV, Knowing Your Gay Marriage Enemies, Donal Og Cusack
There is candlelight vigil scheduled for Sunday evening in Toronto, Ontario, for Christopher Skinner, the 27 year old gay man killed last Sunday in the early hour’s downtown, leaving a birthday party for his sister, Taryn. The vigil is set of 8:00 PM at the corner of Church and Wellesley, and will move down Church to the scene of the crime, at the corner of Adelaide and Victoria Streets.
The vigil comes as Toronto police release a number of new surveillance videos that show Skinner trying in vain to hail a cab, and at one point accidentally hitting the black SUV wanted in connection with his killing while trying to do so. Police have also discovered that a number of vehicles may have, without realizing it, witnessing the entire incident of Skinner being run over by the SUV and are eager to talk with anyone who was in the area between the time 2:45 AM and 3:15 AM.
Is signing a petition to ban gay marriage, to define marriage as that only existing between a man and woman, an act of private opinion, an exercise of free speech that is a constitutional right guaranteed to all, or is it a public declaration of support that is subject to disclosure, a right by others, to know who their enemies are?
Underlining how profound the coming out last week by Irish hurler Donal Og Cusack is, and how one man’s walk in truth will continue to resonant for a very long time, a critial step towards equality for homosexuals.

Canada Marks Anniversary Of Gays In Military, Honoring Gays Persecuted By Nazis, Morrissey Collapses On Stage, Beth Ditto, Boy George, Lee Daniels
October 27th marks an important anniversary in Canada, seventeen years ago on that day the nation’s Federal Court ruled that barring homosexuals from military service was in violation of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. That historic ruling not only encouraged gay men and women to enlist in the three branches of service – the Air Force, Army, and the Navy – but has in fact seen the promotions of several homosexuals to the highest ranks.
In Berlin, Germany Saturday, a ceremony was held in memory of the gay men and women who were persecuted in Nazi Germany, arrested by the Third Reich's secret police, with wreaths laid at memorial in the city’s Tiergarten Park.
Morrissey was rushed by ambulance to a hospital in Wiltshire, England, after one song into a concert Saturday evening the singer collapsed on stage. A spokesperson at the hospital said Morrissey had difficulty breathing, but that he was in stable condition.
The great Gossip lead singer Beth Ditto talks Tori Amos, Rick Rubin, and why she will not be reading this.
Boy George, appearing on The Jonathan Ross show Saturday night, admitted that he deserved to go to prison for imprisoning and whipping a male escort, saying that the sentence did not “come as a surprise.”
A look at Lee Daniels, the director of Precious, the film based on the novel Rush, by Sapphire, and Daniels talks about his abusive father, the films stars, including the extraordinary debut by Gabourey Sidibe, Mo’Nique, Mariah Carey, Lenny Kravitz, President Obama, and Daniel’s sexuality, which he prefers to label bisexual, but not the bisexual you or I would recognize.

Chris Skinner Remembered, Russian Lesbians Wed In Toronto, Cuba Arrest Gay Theatre Goers, Marc Jacobs, Sean O’Pry, AussieBum Welcomes Summer Somewhere
Thursday, Chris Skinner, the 27 year old gay man who was murdered early last Sunday in Toronto, Ontario, was memorialized in a ceremony held in Uxbridge, Ontario, where Skinner’s family resides. Skinner, who was involved in an altercation with a group of individuals at approximately 3:00 AM, knocked to the ground, then run over by one of the individuals driving a black SUV, was remembered by his sister, Taryn, whose birthday party Chris was leaving when killed. Police continue to search for two to four males, and although there is ample speculation that Skinner was killed because he was gay, police have not yet ruled the incident a hate crime.
Friday, Irina Shipitko and her partner Irina Fedotova-Fet, the Russians famously denied a marriage license twice in their native country, married in Toronto, at City Hall, at a ceremony that attracted a number of dignitaries, including Mayor David Miller and out Councilor Kyle Rae. The couple, after a honeymoon in Niagara Falls, intends to return to Russia Tuesday and will demand that their marriage be officially recognized by authorities, or they will file a formal complaint with the European Human Rights Commission. Kyle Rae said he was proud of the role Canada continues to play in leading the way on equality for homosexuals, saying “who would have thought that Canada, and Toronto, would be home for queers around the world? To be able to marry and push for their state, their government, their politicians to recognize their rights.” The couple’s attorney, who accompanied the two, reminded all that gay men and women still face an inordinate amount of discrimination in Russia, although decriminalized in 1993, stating “some people in the gay community … think that you can reach the equality, you can reach the human rights just by sitting and waiting for society to evolve. Society is never ready for anything. To make it ready for something, you need to fight for it, you need to provoke society and make it react to what you are fighting for.”
In Havana, Cuba, on Friday, state security agents arrested nine people who arrived late for a gay themed play; a play whose performance was sanctioned by the state, some twenty-eight theatre goers in attendance while the arrests were made.

Ireland Shifting Sensibilities, Maine Gay Marriage Money Totals, Best Buns Ballyhoo, Chaz Bono, Paris Hilton’s Gay Best Friends, Spanish Sex
An editorial in Saturday’s Irish Times suggests that “the last fortnight has been a quietly momentous one for gay men and lesbians in Ireland” and argues, rightly, that “unless society as a whole wants to demand that a large minority of its citizens be condemned to living a lie, it has to be prepared to treat sexual orientation for what it is: a natural and naturally varied, part of human identity,” concluding that “for citizens to be equal, they do not have to be the same.”
In Maine, new final figures of money raised by both side of the gay marriage battle, the proponents of same sex marriage – No On 1/Protect Maine Equality, who want to uphold the State’s just passed gay marriage legislation - have raised more that 4 million dollars, while opponents of same sex marriage – Stand for Marriage Maine, who want to repeal the gay marriage law – have raised 2.6 million dollars, that according to figures provided by the Maine Ethics Commission.
In Wilton, California, near the state capital of Sacramento, a fundraising rodeo party sponsored by the Capitol Crossroads Gay Rodeo Association for the local Shriners Hospital has been seen as scandalous by some members of the tiny town, the event’ Best Buns contest being compared to pornography by some in the community The private event, held on private property, had both a county and local liquor license. A neighbor, Mr. Monty Stanley, shot video of the alleged offensive moments, although it appears that he had to sort of sneak the footage from an odd vantage point.
Chaz Bono’s transition from female to male continues, one of the first pictures having surfacing, although the link, via Ted Casablanca, is a tad terrible: “transformation” and a hot/or not poll? Ugh. Given Ted is an out gay man, I was hoping for better.

Irina Shipitko and her partner Irina Fedotva-Fet, the lesbian couple that was twice refused a marriage license in their native Russia, arrived in Toronto, Ontario Thursday and plan to wed Friday at a ceremony to be held at City Hall. Although homosexuality was decriminalized in Russia in May of 1993, gays have faced a surge in hate motivated attacks and intolerance, led in large part by political officials. When the two were denied the right to marry on two consecutive occasions, their plight attracted international attention, underlining the climate of inequality for homosexuals in Russia. Their attorney, Nicolas Alexeyev, a leading Russian gay rights activist, accompanied the women to Toronto, where they will stay until Tuesday. Upon their return to Russia, the just married couple intends to have their marriage formally recognized, and failing that, will file a complaint with the European Human Rights Commission.
Daily Mail columnist Jan Moir has apologized for the “timing” of her hateful, homophobic article last Friday, that suggested the death of Stephen Gately served as a reminder that civil partnerships as a happy-ever-after endeavor was a “myth” and that Gately died under “sleazy” circumstances. Deciding not to admit her views were at all homophobic, she instead chose to defend her views, and suggested that she was the victim of a carefully orchestrated internet campaign.
Both opponents and proponents of Referendum 71, the Maine ballot question that asks voters to either approve or reject that State’s just passed gay marriage law, have to file their final campaign spending reports today. To date, supporters of the gay marriage law have raised roughly 2.7 millions, those against have raised 1.1, the largest contributions coming from the National Organization for Marriage, currently embroiled in an investigation to determine whether the group violated campaign disclosure laws by failing to reveal the names of those who donated to the anti-gay campaign.

NOM Sues Maine, Nate Silver Skews Stand For Marriage Maine, Ian Somerhalder, Cameron Diaz’s Ex Plays Gay For Pay, Ryan Gosling, Mika Video
The National Organization for Marriage, currently under investigation by the Maine Ethics Commission to determine if the anti-gay marriage group violated campaign finance laws to avoid disclosing the identities of those who contributed funds, is suing the State of Maine alleging that the State’s campaign reporting requirements are unconstitutional,” an infringement,” according to NOM head Brian Brown, “of free speech.”
Nate Silver, statistician extraordinaire, meanwhile underlines the obvious, that being that the arguments against gay marriage put forth by Stand for Marriage Maine literally make no sense.
Ian Somerhalder appears in the November issue of August magazine, the star of Lost and The Vampire Diaries smoking sexy.
Male model Paul Sculfor, the British (and apparently ageless) ex-boyfriend of both Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Aniston, at work on the Madrid, Spain set of Di Di Hollywood, an Italian feature film featuring Paul cast a gay man, seen here nearly nude with a costar.
Ryan Gosling, on tour with his band Dead Man’s Bones, was seen pre-concert in Toronto, Ontario on Tuesday, looking spectacularly sexy as always.
Mika’s new video for the song Blame On It On The Girls, the second from his album The Boy Who Knew Too Much.

Chris Skinner Memorial, Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Act Passes Senate, Uganda Gay Hate Fuelled By American Evangelicals, LAPD Fires Boy Scouts
A memorial was held Thursday in Uxbridge, Ontario for 27 year old Chris Skinner, the gay man who was killed early Sunday morning in downtown Toronto, assaulted, and then run over with a SUV. Skinner, a graduate of Ryerson University, was leaving his sister’s birthday party, when an altercation occurred. Police in Toronto have released a video of the black SUV, and although family and friends contend the murder was a hate crime, police are reluctant to do so.
The United States Senate late Thursday passed legislation that will extend and strengthen federal protection to individuals who are the victims of violent crimes because of their gender and/or sexual orientation. Despite opposition by Republicans, the legislation passed by a vote of 68-29 the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Act, and it is now sent to President Barack Obama who will sign into law.
An environment of fear and hatred in Uganda for gay men and women continues to be cultivated – the tabling of an Anti-Homosexual Bill the latest step in a series of measures meant to intimidate and marginalize a population that already lives in terror - but now come reports that American Evangelical leaders are orchestrating a campaign that amounts to a kind of sexual orientation cleansing, an attempt to eradicate the presence of homosexuals in the African country. And although that the consideration to pass the Bill has now been put off till 2010, largely because of international outrage at a piece of legislation that in effect sanctions the employment of the death penalty for homosexuals, the level of terror is frightening and merits continual monitoring.
The Los Angeles Police Department, on Tuesday, indicated that it is formally working to end its relationship with the Boy Scouts of American that after a decade of complaints that the Department was acting in violation of a city law that prohibits contracts with organizations that maintain a policy that discriminates based on sexual orientation. The Boys Scouts of America ran the LAPD’s Explorers Program and the Department is now in the process of setting up a program of its own. It remains unclear, however, if LGBT youth would be involved in a program that under the tutelage of the Boy Scouts, were excluded.

Canadian Prime Minister Hires Hate Spewing Speechwriter, Swiss Lutheran Church To Marry Same Sex Couples, London Hate Crime Vigil, Russian Drag Queens
Canadian Prime Minster Stephen Harper, Conservative, has hired a new speechwriter, and he is Nigel Hannaford, a former columnist of the Calgary Herald, as well as member of the paper’s editorial board, who likes to make believe that it is 1965 and that in 1965 all was well, especially homosexuality, which Hannaford once suggested “was regarded as a sin” and now “had special class status.” Hannaford, who should be charged with fraud each and every time he speaks or writes, joins a number of arch-conservatives Harper seems to be securing in highly placed appointments.
In a vote held Thursday morning, the Lutheran Church of Sweden has decided in favor of performing clerical rites for same sex marriages, in effect falling in line with the Swiss government’s ruling this past spring to legalized gay marriage.
A hate crime vigil has been organized for Friday, October 30th, at 8:00 PM, in London, England, at Trafalgar Square, the scene of the gay bashing of 62 year old Ian Baynham, attacked by three teens, now in custody, Mr. Baynham having succumbed to the substantial injuries he suffered in the attack, dying late last week. There has been a significant rise in the number of reported hate motivated attacks in England, a recently released report indicated that homophobic attacks against both gay men and women have increased in the late year by almost 20 percent.
A just released Russian film – Veselchaki (or Jolly Fellows) – a mainstream movie about a group of drag queens in a country where gay men and women are treated with abuse, contempt and ridicule, is bravely breaking down at least some barriers and offering an educating reflection of the lives of homosexuals.

More Ugandan Anti-Gay Hate, R-71 Names Protected, Senator Stevens Spews Homophobia, Glee Goes Madonna, Novak Djokovic Takes It Off, Tom Brady
The climate for gays in Uganda continues to become more and more dangerous, the National Coalition Against Homosexuality and Sexual Abuses petitioning Parliament to demand an independent report to insure that police in the country are following protocol when dealing with complaints of homosexual activity.
By an 8-1 vote, the United States Supreme Court ruled late Tuesday that the names of those who signed petitions to place Referendum 71 on the November 3rd ballot in Washington State will remain private for at least one year. The court, suggesting that the case is about the right to free speech, blocked the release of the names that seek to overturn the State’s recently passed expanded and strengthened domestic partnership law which affords all the benefits and rights to same sex and senior couples as those afforded to opposite sex couples.
Meanwhile Washington State Senator Val Stevens, Republican, who wrote, on behalf of Protect Washington Marriage, an email that in principle is about rejecting Referendum 71, but is in fact a revelation of one woman’s losing battle with mental health. To quote from the ramblings of Ms. Stevens, who writes in part, “Could this be the final battle? Are homosexuals finally going to take control of our culture and push their depraved lifestyle on our children and families?” Stevens continues, misunderstanding the intention of the law completely, stating “Canada already has laws making it illegal to speak against homosexuality on the streets. Bills exist presently in the U.S. Congress to do the same. In the last few weeks a Canadian church pastor was arrested for speaking against homosexuality.” There is more, but you’ll have to read it for yourself; it is simply too frightening to rewrite.
According to reports, Madonna has agreed to let the producers of Glee the rights to her entire catalogue and that an all Madonna music episode of the Ryan Murphy created show is scheduled for early 2010. Also, Murphy says he is about to approach Adam Lambert about appearing on the show, also in early 2010.
Novak Djokovic, tennis hotness himself, in Shanghai, China for the Masters series, adjusts himself, and then takes off his top post-match, and yes, you are welcome.
Meanwhile there are reports that Mr. Tom Brady and his wife Gisele Bundchen are expecting a girl, the couple’s first, in December. Tom has a son, an adorable son, John Thomas, with his ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan, whom he left for Gisele when Bridget was still pregnant.

Yes On 1 Denies Copyright Infringement Claim, Focus On The Family Donates To Yes On 1, Rosie O’Donnell, Miss Saigon, Autumnal Sexiness, Naked PSA
Stand For Marriage Maine, who never met a lie it did not or would not tell, Wednesday denied claims that it violated National Public Radio’s copyright when it used content – out of context no less – from NPR’s All Things Considered for the anti-gay marriage group’s latest television ad. NPR’s attorneys sent a cease order to the organization that seeks to overturn the State’s gay marriage legislation which was passed in May, asking citizens to vote Yes on Question 1. The infringed content in question was edited from a September 13th, 2004 edition of All Things Considered titled “Massachusetts Schools Grapple with Gay & Lesbian Relationships in Sex Education.”
Despite protests of near poverty, Focus on the Family, the Colorado Springs based faith hate group, has donated, as of September 30th, 2009, nearly 100,000 dollars to the Yes On 1 campaign, able to do so and retain their status as a non-profit group. In 2008, the organization funded the Proposition 8 proponents with nearly 500,000 dollars.
According to reports, Rosie O’Donnell and her partner Kelli Carpenter are struggling with problems related to their relationship, but O’Donnell says “We’re a family. We will remain a family forever. And we are working on our issues.”
Lee Daniels, the director of Precious, is in negotiation to direct a film version of the Cameron Mackintosh produced Broadway musical Miss Saigon.
Autumn, antlers, a male model that possesses the sexiest arm pits ever seen, the woods, and underwear: just another fall fashion spread.
Robert Kazinsky, an actor you might recognize from the British drama EastEnders, ridiculously sexy, serving up a reminder that it is almost time to turn the clocks back an hour, I think, because honestly I was not listening.

Vatican Divides And Conquers, Uganda Attempts To Eradicate All Gays, High School Production Of Rent Picketed, T.R. Knight Breaks Up, Nicholas Hoult
The Vatican, recognizing an opportunity to steal both parishioners and property, said Tuesday that it was prepared to facilitate the migration of conservative Anglicans, despondent at the movement towards inclusion and tolerance as evidence by the acceptance of female priests and openly gay bishops, to convert to Catholicism. And before you convince yourself that the move, extraordinary by any measure, is about adding to the Catholic’s thinning flock, remember, whole congregations and their churches are up for grabs.
The proposed Anti-Homosexual Bill introduced last week in Uganda by Member of Parliament David Bahati that seeks to have the death penalty imposed on anyone caught engaged in gay sex with someone under the age of 18 or having sex when HIV positive is being denounced by a number of gay rights activists and human rights advocates who rightly regard it as an attempt to eradicate homosexuals entirely from the county. Bahati defended his bill, saying that “homosexuality is not a human right at all.”
Another high school production of Rent, another amateur protest by the fine folk from the gay hating Westboro Baptist Church, whose members are determined to disrupt this Friday’s performance of the play by students of the Shawnee Mission North High School, in Kansas City. The play, award winning and authored by Jonathan Larson, was chosen, according to school officials, because it articulates how people chose to survive. The performance Friday will also ask for a collection of non-perishable food items and coats to support Kansas City homeless.
There are reports Wednesday that T.R. Knight, currently seen in the previews of the Los Angeles revival of Parade, set to open Thursday, has broken up with his boyfriend of two years, David Cornelson. The 36 year old Knight, who just last week told Ellen DeGeneres he wanted to adopt, is said to have asked the 20 year old Cornelson to move out of the couple’s apartment.
Tom Ford photographs the so sexy Nicholas Hoult, one of the stars of Ford’s film directorial debut A Single Man, and the results are spectacular.

Bathhouse Fire Ruled Arson, Mob Informant Outs Himself, Bronson Pinchot On Tom Cruise’s Gay Hate, Jonathan Waud, Adam Lambert Time For Miracles Video
Authorities in Winnipeg, Manitoba have determined that a fire that destroyed one of the city’s bathhouses and took the lives of two was started deliberately, and now the police homicide unit has initiated an investigation. The fire, which started at approximately 7:00 AM Sunday, October 11th, killed 23 year old Steven Yablonski and 62 year old Robert Clark.
Robert Mormando, a confessed gunman for Gambino family, a New York area mob syndicate, who turned informer, stunned a Federal District Court in Brooklyn Monday, appearing at a sentence hearing for his involvement in the 2003 killing of a bagel store owner in Queens, when he told the courtroom that he, a 44 year old, was gay. He also repudiated his life of crime.
Bronson Pinchot talks to the AV Club – his 2007 film Mr. Art Critic is being released on DVD – and the artist formally known as Balki gives a great interview. Pinchot says that Tom Cruise on the set of the 1983 film Risky Business was “the biggest bore on the face of the Earth.” Cruise, according to Bronson, “was tense and made constant, constant unrelated homophobic comments, like, ‘You want some ice ream, in case there are no gay there?’ I mean, his lingo was larded with the most … There was no basis for it. It was like, ‘It’s a nice day, I’m glad there are no gay people standing her.” Very, very strange.” Pinchot added that “Years and years later, when people started to torment him with that, I used to think “God, that’s really fitting, because he tormented a lot of people as a 20-year-old.” He made such a big deal about it.”
Jonathan Waud, the sole reason I ever watched Make Me A Supermodel, seen in Bello magazine, and although there is no nudity there is ample smoking sexiness.
The official video for Adam Lambert’s single, Time for Miracles, has been released, taken from the soundtrack for the film 2012. It was confirmed today that his debut album, scheduled to be released on November 24th, will be titled For Your Entertainment.

Country Singer Banned For Anti-Gay Lyrics, Buffalo Gay Bashing Plea, Modern Family’s Gay Dads, Zachary Quinto Unbuttoned, Josh Harnett Vogues
City officials from Reidsville, North Carolina have banned any and all future performances by one Matt Boswell and the Hillbilly Blues Band, that after the group, hired by the city to sing at the annual fall festival, performed a rendition of the Merle Haggard country classic Are the Good Times Really Over for Good?, changing the lyrics to include the lines “all you Wall Street bankers, as far as I’m concerned, you can all go to Hell, and you can’t get married, you stupid gays and queers, so why don’t you go somewhere else?” Neither Mr. Boswell, nor his agent was available for comment.
Joshua Holts, a 26 year old Buffalo, New York man, entered a plea of guilty Monday as his trail for the savage hate motivated attack on a 48 year old gay man was about to begin. Holts beat the man, a native of Atlanta, Georgia, who was visiting his mother, on August 3, 2008, outside of a bar, all of it caught on surveillance tape, including Holts repeatedly screaming anti-gay slurs. The victim recently underwent his fourth surgery to try to correct damage to his left eye. The prosecutors in the case, however, did not pursue the case as a hate crime, and Holts plead guilty to a charge of second-degree assault. He will be sentenced on January 11th, 2010.

AIDS Study Proves Less Than Successful, Tulsa Gay Bashing, Producers Demand Carrie Prejean Refund, Ricky Martin On The Beach, Matt Dallas Couples Up
A report published in the New England Journal of Medicine suggests that the results of the Thai AIDS vaccine, released in September that seemed to hold hope and new possibilities, are not statistically significant. The trial’s success was likely a matter of chance, but researchers who have studied the trail’s findings say the overall findings were nonetheless “of potentially great importance to the field of HIV research” because they might yield information about the kinds of immune responses necessary in order to provide protection against the virus.
Brandon Patrick, a 23 year old Tulsa, Oklahoma man, says he was seriously beaten late Sunday evening, walking from his home to a friend’s home, after a group began yelling anti-gay slurs at him, which quite quickly escalated to violence. Patrick was beaten, bit, and stabbed by three assailants, taken to hospitial, treated and released, and Tulsa police are searching for three suspects: a female in her early 40’s, and a male and another female both in the late teens or early 20’s. Oklahoma is one of several states that exclude sexual orientation from a list of qualifications for a crime to be considered a hate motivated attack, and a new federal law, once passed, will amend that.
Carrie Prejean, so classy, so Christian, and currently hanging in effigy in West Hollywood, is being counter-sued by the producers of the Miss California pageant, who want their money back given to Prejean for breast augmentation surgery. The filing, inadvertently funny, use biblical language to state its case.
Hall of Fame DILF Ricky Martin, in a picture posted on his Twitter account Tuesday, models a fiercely fashionable retro baby blue bathing suit, holding one of his adorable twin boys.
Matt Dallas, formerly of Kyle XY and currently of Eastwick, leaves a Los Angeles, California restaurant Monday evening, accompanied by the same mystery man rumored to be Matt’s boyfriend.

Gay Man Murdered In Toronto, Gordon Brown Demonstrates Tolerance, Referendum 71 Repeat Of Prop 8, Carrie Prejean In Effigy, Fine Rugby Men, Lance Bass
Toronto Police Services are investigated a homicide after a young gay man died in the early hours of Sunday, October 18th, in the city’s downtown. Chris Skinner, a 27 year old, was involved in an altercation with the occupants of a black SUV near Adelaide Street East and Victoria Street, where Skinner was assaulted, causing him to be knocked to the ground. The occupants of the vehicle returned to the SUV and the driver reportedly ran Skinner over. He was taken to hospital, but later died from his injuries. Police are looking for the vehicle.
British Prime Minister Gordon Brown is to recommend Tuesday that civil partnerships ceremonies should be permitted at the Palace of Westminster in an effort to demonstrate parliament’s commitment to gay marriage and to tolerance. Same sex couples have been legally able to register a civil partnership since December 2005.

Remembering Steven Yablonski, More Referendum 71 Legal Ridiculousness, Mormon Gay Rights Groups Push Back, Joss Whedon And Jonathan Groff Get Glee
Steven Yablonski was buried Monday morning. The 23 year old Winnipeg, Manitoba man was one of two individuals killed in fire that tore through a city bathhouse during the early hours of Sunday, October 11th. Yablonski, who was born in Gimli, Manitoba, and grew up in Fraserwood, had moved to the city two years ago to pursue a career in entertainment, was well renowned locally as a drag performer, and had planned to record a CD. His family has asked that donations be made in his name to the Gimli High School Band Program, which Steven proudly was a member of. The fire is still under investigation.
To the frustration of several, Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy has temporarily blocked Washington State officials from released the names of the individuals who signed a petition seeking a ballot measure that would reverse that state’s expanded and strengthened domestic partnership law that affords same sex couples many, if not all of the same rights enjoyed by opposite sex married couples. Kennedy’s ruling after last week’s Court of Appeals ruling that reversed a lower court decision that protected the names that have made the proposition - Referendum 71 - possible. Now, while Justice Kennedy considers the appeal by Protect Marriage Washington, whom wants the identity of their supporters kept secret, the State’s Attorney General’s office is busy writing a response to the temporary injunction.
A coalition of four Mormon based gay advocacy groups has called upon the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to refrain from political campaigning and to end a refrain to deny to equality to homosexuals. The four – Affirmation: Gay and Lesbian Mormons, Foundation for Reconciliation, the LDS Safe Space Coalition, and Mormons for Marriage – were responding to the hateful denouncement issued last week by LDS apostle Dallin H. Oaks, who termed the battle for gay rights “an alleged civil rights” movement and called on Mormons to fight for the freedom of religious expression by opposing any and all attempts to legalize gay marriage in America.
Two big banging items regarding Ryan Murphy’s Glee, first the news that Joss Whedon is set to direct an episode of the smash show, one the nine extra episodes that Fox recently ordered, which will air in the spring of 2010. Second, the cute and terribly talented Jonathan Groff is scheduled to star on at least a six episode arc at the lead singer of Vocal Adrenaline, playing, according to Murphy, “a male diva, a miva.”

Thousands File Complaint Over Stephen Gately Article, Irish Hurler Comes Out, ACLU Enters Yearbook Tuxedo Battle, Idol Gay Sensitive, Tim Gunn
The United Kingdom Press Complaints Commission said Monday that it has received a record number of complaints about an article written by Jan Moir about the late Stephen Gately that suggested his death was a reminder that the happy-ever-after idea of civil partnerships is a “myth.” The PCC said since Friday, the day Moir’s article appeared on the Daily Mail’s online site, they have received upwards of 21,000 individual complaints. The Commission is in a position to investigate whether her piece, originally titled “Why there was nothing ‘natural’ about Stephen Gately’s death.” In fact violated a part of the Commission’s code of conducts that deals with intrusion into grief, accuracy, discrimination, and homophobia.
Donal Og Cusack, a 32 year old Irish hurling star, has come out. Cusack, the David Beckham of the Gaelic sport, reveals that he is gay in a new autobiography to be published later this month titled Come What May, becoming the first active player to ever do so.
The American Civil Liberties Union branch in Mississippi has written a letter to Ronald Greer, the principal of the Wesson Attendance Center, in Wesson, Mississippi, demanding that he approve the yearbook portrait of Ceara Sturgis, the senior, whose picture was rejected because Sturgis, openly gay, refused to wear the traditional female drape and opted to wear a tuxedo. The ACLU has given Greer and officials till October 23rd to approve the young senior’s picture or it will pursue legal action. Ceara, in a statement, said “I feel like I’m not important, the school is dismissing who I am as a gay student and that they don’t even care about me. All I want in to be able to be me, and to be included in the yearbook.” On Friday, school Superintendent Ricky Clopton said that the district had met with legal counsel and had no intention of reversing the decision, citing a federal court ruling as precedent.
According to reports, the producers of American Idol have ordered Simon Cowell and Ryan Seacrest to stop making jokes that play on questions of the two’s sexual orientation. The request was reportedly made out of deference to Ellen DeGeneres, who replaces one of the judges, Paula Abdul.
Tim Gunn is yet another of the celebrity cameos in the Sex and the City sequel, Mr. Gunn to appear as himself, a role he was born to play.

Toronto To Host World Pride, Remembering Stephen Gately, Penn Badgley Is Beautiful, Alexander Skarsgard And Kate Bosworth Couple Up
Toronto, Ontario Sunday, earned the right to host the 2014 World Pride celebrations, beating out Stockholm, Sweden, the closest competition. The event will correspond with Toronto Pride festivities in the summer of 2014. Toronto was represented at the Inter-Pride 2009 Conference in St. Petersburg, Florida, by a delegation that included members from Pride Toronto, Tourism Toronto, the TD Bank, and the Toronto Police Service.
A look at the significance of Stephen Gately’s funeral service Saturday, in Dublin, Ireland, at the St. Lawrence O’Toole Catholic Church, beyond the ceremony being a celebration of Gately’s far too brief life, and a loving, thoughtful remembrance of the Boyzone star, recalled as someone who quietly “paved the way for pop stars like Lance Bass of N’Sync to come out and helped create a mood of tolerance that trickled down from the pop stage to the playground. Unlike George Michael, he showed that gay men did not have to live like sexually promiscuous adolescents and he was, in a way, the face of the newly tolerant Ireland.”
The beautiful looking Gossip Girl boy Penn Badgley visits the Mars Bar, Manhattan’ downtown dive, > and enjoys the evening out, finding out from a stranger, that he is indeed, beautiful looking.
It seems that the sexy Swede that is Alexander Skarsgard and one Kate Bosworth have coupled up, the twosome just finishing filming on a remake of Straw Dogs.

Fort Worth Kiss-In Turns Shouting Match, New York City Anti-Hate March, Vote No On 1 Editorial, Balloon Boy A Hoax, Parents Face Multiple Charges
A “Kiss-In” Saturday in the Stockyard section of Fort Worth, Texas, meant to be a peaceful protest against an area perceived to be particularly intolerant of homosexuals was met, predictably, was met with a counter demonstration by an equal number of evangelical Christians. The counter-protest, led mostly by members of the Fort Worth World Missionary Baptist Church, contends that homosexuality is a lifestyle choice, and urged members of the Queer Liberation group to repent and convert. There were no takers.
In New York City, meanwhile, hundreds marched Saturday in the College Point area of Queens, in support of gay bashing victim Jack Price, and to demand an end to the violence that targets gays. Price was viciously beaten October 8th after the 49 year old had gone to a corner deli and was attacked by two men, 21 year old Daniel Rodriguez and 26 year old Daniel Aleman, both of whom have been arrested after the incident was captured on security video. A small number of Daniel Rodriguez supporters staged a counter-protest, denying that the attack was motivated by hate for gays, although I fail to understand how that would render anything different.
An editorial from the Portland Press Herald Sunday Maine Telegram in support of voting no on Question 1, the referendum that will ask voters to decide between either approving or rejecting a Maine law passed in May that extended the right of gay men and women to marry. Arguing that denying gays the right to marry is a “legally inferior position inconsistent with Maine’s tradition of equal protection under the law,” the editorial underlines that the opponents of gay marriage, in Maine and elsewhere, have an inordinately difficult time in offering reasonable, valid arguments as to how exactly the idea of legally permitting homosexuals to marry threatens anyone, let alone the conceit of the traditional family, and often, if not always, relies on fabrications and blatant lies.
At a just concluded news conference, Larimer Colorado County Sheriff Jim Alderen said that the so called “balloon boy” event of Friday was a “hoax.” “It has been determined that this is a hoax, that it was a publicity stunt,” said the Sheriff, adding there exists enough “evidence to indicate it was a publicity stunt done with the hope of marketing themselves to a reality show sometime in the future.” Charges being considered are both local and likely federal, including three felony charges. If the story does not serve as an indictment against an almost insatiable thirst for fame at any level – reality TV to Twitter – I am not sure what would.

Adam Lambert Loves Pretty Woman, Levi Johnston Loves Moose Meat, Colt McCoy And Jordan Shipley Love Each Other
Details magazine puts Adam Lambert on the cover of the November issue, and inside manages to hetero-normalize the openly gay American Idol runner-up, not only in a photo series whose psycho-sexual motifs are, um, disturbing at best, but in an interview that is likely to be discussed for Lambert’s quote “I’m gay, but I like kissing women sometimes. Women are pretty.” Lambert says that his opposite sex attraction would not bother his boyfriend, 24 year old Drake LaBry, although he does not discuss Drake except to say that he is “Cajun” and has had “swagger,” adding that he like men “smaller and younger.”
According to reports, Levi Johnston is preparing to pose nude for Playgirl by adhering to a strict workout regime and a diet high in moose meat, The 19 year old is scheduled to shoot the series for Playgirl next month.
Is there a bromance brewing between the Texas Longhorns' quarterback Colt McCoy and his wide receiver Jordan Shipley? The two, life long friends and roommates, are a tad, um, close. The Longhorns, by the way, won the Red River Rivalry battle Saturday, besting the Oklahoma Sooners 16-13, led by McCoy.

Shipley, by the way, is profiled in Saturday's New York Times, heralding Jordan’s musical talent, comparing the 23 year old to John Mayer and Jack Johnson.

Stephen Gately Laid To Rest, Neil Patrick Harris Gets Clownish, Zac Efron, Hillary Duff, Peyton Manning And Dean Sheremet Couple Up?
An estimated 3,500 mourners stood in the streets outside St. Lawrence O’Toole’s Church in Dublin, Ireland, another 600 hundred inside, as the funeral for Boyzone star Stephen Gately was held Saturday. His body was later cremated after a short service at Dublin’s Glasnevin Cemetery. Father Declan Blake, who led the church service, mentioned that Gately had been baptized in the same church 33 years ago, and added that “through his singing and entertaining, Stephen touched the lives of many, many people.” Ronan Keating, friend and band mate, eulogizing Gately, described Stephen as “a man, a friend, a brother, a son, a hero.” Gately’s husband, Andrew Cowles, seen below, was comforted by family and friends.

Neil Patrick Harris attended the gala opening night of Cirque du Soleil Kooza in Santa Monica, California Friday evening, Harris either alarmed or amused or both.

Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, and Lucas Grabeel all attended the Vancouver Giants hockey game Friday night, and watched the Giants beat the Prince George Cougars 8-0.
Meanwhile, in Edmonton, Alberta, Hilary Duff was on hand to watch her cute boyfriend Mike Comrie and his Edmonton Oilers took on the Minnesota Wild. Comrie scored one goal and the Oilers won the game 5-2.
Were Peyton Manning and Dean Sheremet together at Saturday’s Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Longhorns’ game? It is obvious Mr. Manning, and the cute one next to him, hidden behind sunglasses, applying lip balm certainly looks like Mr. Sheremet, the ex-beard for one LeAnn Rimes. Texas, by the way, won 16-13.
