Sweden To Cut Aid To Uganda, Scott Lively, Evan Low Takes Office, Calls For Osby Davis To Resign, Editorial On Albany's Cowardice And Discrimination

As expected, Sweden announced it will cut aid to Uganda if that country carries through on a threat to pass a proposed measure – the Anti-Homosexuality Bill - that Swiss officials call “appalling.” Currently, Uganda receives upwards of 50 million dollars in development funds annually from Sweden.

Scott Lively, a leader of the now defunct Oregon Citizens Alliance, a hateful, hate fueled anti-gay group that self-destructed before trying to implement several anti-homosexuals initiatives in the State, is one of the central foreign figures in the authorship of Uganda’s Anti-Homosexuality Bill, Lively an ally and confident of Saddleback Church Pastor Rick Warren, also directly involved in crafting Uganda public policy.

26 year old Evan Low was elected mayor of Campbell, California, in Santa Clara County, on Tuesday, becoming the youngest openly gay Asian-American elected official in the United States.

Meanwhile in Vallejo, California, there is mounting pressure of Mayor Osby Davis to resign after he was quoted in a New York Times article published in November stating that gays “are committing sin and that sin will keep them out of heaven.” Davis later apologized for the comments, and said that they were taken out of context, however the Times released an audiotape of the interview disproving Davis’ defense. On Tuesday hundreds of pro-gay protestors clashed at City Hall with supporters of the embattled mayor.

The New York Times editorial on the defeat of a gay marriage bill before the State Senate on Wednesday, the Times’ writing that “Like Gov. David Paterson and advocates who pressed for the vote, we had hope a sufficient number of senators would do the right thing when required to take a stand. In the end, though, not a single Republican possessed the courage or sense of justice to depart from an obsolete and narrow-minded party line, even the handful who had indicated they might.”
