The Los Angeles Times reports that team of attorneys representing the two gay couples challenging Proposition 8 voter initiative banning same sex marriage in the state of California, were in a federal appeals court Tuesday in Pasadena, arguing that they require access to the internal campaign communications of the proponents of the legislation in order to prove that the ballot measure was passed with “discriminatory intent.”
The American Civil Liberties Union, according to the San Francisco Chronicle, is siding with proponents of Proposition 8, the ACLU’s Northern California chapter, which supports same sex marriage and is backing the lawsuit, filed arguments that forcing full disclosure of campaign communications could corrupt the principles of free speech while planning a political campaign.

Currently, the University bans discrimination based on race and religion, but not sexual orientation or gender identity.
