Diane Savino Superstar, Honoring Will Phillips, John Waters Wisdom, Taylor Lautner, Kara DioGuardi Explains, Chelsea Helps Chris Colfer Come Out

Democratic State Senator Diane Savino, from Staten Island, New York, fought a forceful, at time funny fight for gay marriage in the senate Wednesday, becoming a gay rights heroine and an instant serious superstar. The great Tim Murphy profiles the equally great Diane, defender of gay rights.

Faith in America, an organization that commits to fight religion-based bigotry against homosexuals, announced that it will honor 10 year old Will Phillips, the beyond cute Arkansas boy who refuses to stand for the pledge of allegiance until there is complete equality for gays, and who, in a simple act of disobedience, became a hero to all.

John Waters, will be touring Australia with his one man show This Filthy World, and in anticipation talks about Divine, how Hairspray is much more subversive that Pink Flamingos, Zac Efron, Nicole Kidman, and why Iraq is more important to Mr. Waters that gay marriage, suggesting “I always thought the privilege of being gay is you didn’t have to get married. I understand the straight people want to get married. But I think we should fight to make heterosexual divorce illegal. Watch how fast we win.”

Taylor Lautner – who may or may not be gay, but is at the moment dating Taylor Swift, which seems an odd compromise for both – was out and about Thursday night in Los Angeles, California, the two Taylors looking achingly adorable.

American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi, demonstrating an apparent understanding of the obvious, explains exactly why ABC continues to cancel appearances by Idol runner up Adam Lambert. “We’re living in a pretty bad economic time, so they have to do what they have to do to keep their advertisers,” said Kara, “Networks are doing what they think their viewers want and don’t want, so it’s just budgetary.”

My love for the mercurial Chelsea Handler is well documented and it grew deeper when she welcomed Glee’s Chris Colfer to her show Chelsea Lately Thursday night, aiding and abetting in the young man coming out for what one wishes is the very final time, Chris cracking very wise about gay actors.
