China’s Government Backed Gay Bar Opens, John Amaechi, Brittany Murphy Remembered, Chris And Liam Hemsworth, Jonatas Faro, Jamie Dornan

After a three week delay, the Associated Foreign Press reports that the first government backed gay bar has opened in the tourist town of Dali, in the Yunnan province of China. Homosexuality was classified a mental illness in China until 2001, and remains a sensitive issue. The idea behind the bar was to create an environment where gays and lesbians could meet, seeking friendship, support, and a safe place to gather information on HIV/AIDS, an exercise that health and government officials is important as new HIV infection continue to rise. In 2005, the newspaper China Daily estimated there to be at least 20 million gay Chinese, but few come out.

Former NBA player John Amaechi, who came out after his professional career ended in 2007, tells the BBC that Gareth Thomas, the British rugby star who came out publically over the weekend, can expect to continue to encounter struggles, saying “when people learn you are gay, often that can squash your definition so all the good stuff goes and you just become ‘some gay rugby player,’ which is quite difficult for many athletes to deal with.”

Brittany Murphy remembered.

More images of Jason Lewis filming the pilot for Rio, in, well, Rio de Janero, Brazil, joined by the smoking sexy Brazilian Jonatas Faro.

NinetyFive Chapel Market is the title of a new anthology collecting the work of photographer Mariano Vivanco, who captures Jamie Dornan and other sizzling sexy male models at the beginning of their careers.
