Over one million attended the 14th Annual Rio Gay Pride Parade on Sunday, despite it being a gloomy, overcast day.
Polish born soccer star Arek Onyszho, who plays goal for a Danish FC team, has been fired from the team after the publication of his autobiography, titled Fucking Polack, released Monday, in which Arek, who was arrested and sentencing earlier this year for domestic violence, writes “I hate gays. I really do. I think it’s fucking disgusting to hear them talk to each other as if they are girls. I can’t be in the same room as someone who’s gay. Look at them kissing each other ... it’s sickening.” After his conviction, the team suspended him, but was reinstated, conditional on him not writing the book, which also expresses sympathy for the Hell’s Angels.
A Cathedral City, California couple are threatened to sue SkyWest Airlines and its parent company, Delta Airlines, because, they allege, the company is in violation of State law, failing to recognize the rights and benefits of same sex spouses and registered domestic partners. Gilbert Caldwell and the Reverend David Farrell were married on June 24th, 2008, and have been registered as domestic partners since 2002, but the airline refuses to extend its full benefits package to the couple. Caldwell, who is 56 years old, has been employed with SkyWest as a baggage service agent at the Palm Springs International Airport since September, 2004, and has been asked to pay for Farrell, 72 years old, to fly as his “travel companion.” Lambda Legal is representing the couple, who had filed a complaint with the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing over eleven months ago, but the investigation had yet to yield any real results. SkyWest is based out of St. George, Utah, its CEO Jerry Atkin an active proponent of Proposition 8.
Sam Handley, the physical education teacher at a boy’s school – the Harvey Grammar School, in Folkestone, England – formally resigned Monday. Handley was suspended was the school after pictures appeared on gay web site of Handley in October. Handley, who is 25 years old, says that the pictures were private, were taken years ago, and were not intended for public display.
Robert Pattinson, dirty sexy himself, graces the cover of the December Vanity Fair, photographed by Bruce Weber, who tells the magazine that he is “unbearably self-conscious about stuff,” worried that when being hunted by the paparazzi that his “ass crack is showing.”
