The Washington State secretary of state’s office said Monday that the supporters of Referendum 71 have gathered sufficient signatures to place the referendum on the upcoming November ballot. That referendum, supported by anti-gay group Protect Washington Families, who insists that they are not trying to withhold any equal rights from anyone, but are instead attempting to protect the traditional definition of marriage, aims to repeal a law that expanded the rights and protections of same sex domestic partners in the state. That legislation would afford homosexuals couples the same rights as those allotted heterosexual couples except for marriage.
