Massachusetts Sues Defense Of Marriage Act, Maine Gay Marriage Opponent Referendum, Gay Celebrity Poll, Robert Pattison, Kellan Lutz

Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley late Wednesday announced a lawsuit on behalf of the state - the first in United States to legalize gay marriage - that challenges the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act, arguing that the Act, which defines marriage as that only existing between a man and woman, “overstepped its authority, undermined states’ efforts to recognize marriages between same-sex couples, and codified an animus towards gay and lesbian people.”

Coakley said that suit was filed because “our families, our communities, and even our economy have seen the many important benefits that come from recognizing equal marriage rights, and frankly, no downside. However, we have also seen how many of our married residents and their families are being hurt by a discriminatory, unprecedented, and, we believe, unconstitutional law.”

Opponents of gay marriage deemed the lawsuit without merit, Kris Mineau, head of the Massachusetts Family Institute arguing that Americans are resolved in their support of Defense of Marriage Act, and that the lawsuit “will have no credibility.”

Gay marriage opponents in Maine, the Organizers for the Stand on Marriage Maine, said late Wednesday that they have collected the required signatures to place a referendum on the November ballot to overturn the state’s just passed legislation legalizing same-sex marriage. Jesse Connelly, of the pro-gay marriage group Maine Freedom to Marry, said that the organization is more than prepared to fight any and all attempts to repeal the gay marriage bill, set to take effect September 12th, 2009. However, if the signatures collected by OSMM are certified, the same-sex marriage law will be suspended until after the November ballot.

Who, among today’s celebrities, do you think is gay? David Letterman or Kevin Spacey? Hilary Clinton or Madonna? A new online poll supplies one hundred and twenty four possible gay men and women, including asking whether you think Ellen DeGeneres, Neil Patrick Harris, and Adam Lambert are gay, so the science at work might be best termed the “new,” and by new of course I mean seriously stupid.

Us magazine, retreating for the moment from its constant coverage of Michael Jackson, offers new, never seen photos of Robert Pattison.

Robert’s Twilight co-star – the smoking sexy Kellan Lutz – was out and about Wednesday in Los Angeles, who keeps denying he is dating 90210 star AnnaLynne McCord.
