After seemingly endless and often inexcusable delays, the pretrial hearing in the murder of Lawrence King by his classmate Brandon McInerney is scheduled to start tomorrow, Monday, in Ventura, California. Dawn Boldrin, the teacher whose classroom Larry was murdered in, for the first time speaks publically to the Los Angeles Times, and she tells, briefly of noticing the obvious troubles both boys were struggling with – Brandon with family, Larry with his sexual identity – and tells a heart breaking tale of a gift she presented to King five days before his death. Boldrin, herself one of many victims of that day, has suffered from anxiety and debilitating depression since, and this past April, the school fired her, and doubts she will ever teach again.
San Diego, California celebrated Saturday, the Pride Parade drawing thousands of participants, and thousands of spectators, the spectacle serving for many as a reminder that equality, while in reach, in a time of Proposition 8, the Rainbow Lounge raid, and the military ban on gays serving openly, remains the goal.
