Homeless Man Indebted To Tom Brady Has Debt Cleared, Arturo Gatti Found Dead, Jonathan Sanchez No-Hitter, Ryan Lochte

An odd story from Boston Saturday, Dennis Paiva, a convicted felon, reduced to panhandling to repay a four thousand dollar debt owed to Tom Brady – yes, that Tom Brady – has had that debt cleared by a Boston area businessman, Dan Greenwald. In May of 2008, Paiva found flower boxes belonging to Brady behind Tom’s Boston condominium. Paiva believed the boxes to be garbage, and sold them for scrap metal.

Italian born, but Montreal raised former world boxing champion Arturo Gatti has been found dead in Brazil. Known as the “Thunder,” Gatti’s badly bloodied body was discovered early Saturday morning. He was one of Canada’s most successful boxers.

The story of San Francisco Giant Jonathan Sanchez is one that seems to serve as a reminder of what makes baseball a game that easily accepts legends and myths. Sanchez, a twenty-six year left hander pitched so poorly so far this season he had been demoted to the bullpen for the last three weeks, called up to start Friday’s game against the San Diego Padres only because Randy Johnson had been placed on the disabled list, a shoulder injury to blame. With his Father and Brother in attendance, Sanchez prompted threw the first no-hitter of the season, the first Giants no-hitter in the last thirty-three years, and came an eighth inning error away from a perfect game. With the win Sanchez’s record stands a 3-8.

Ryan Lochte, competing at the 2009 Conoco Philips National Championships in Indianapolis, won the men’s 200 meter individual melody Friday, Lochte as curly haired and cute as ever, even when rocking the old school Reebok Pumps.
