Fort Worth Mayor Apologized But For What, Episcopalian Bishops Broach Gay Marriage, Evan Longoria, Ian Thorpe, Michael Phelps At The ESPY Awards

Fort Worth, Texas Mayor Mike Moncreif apologized Tuesday night at a raucous City Council meeting, but to whom and what exactly for? Many left in attendance – a number of gay activist had been ejected from the chambers – when the Mayor said “I’m sorry” assumed he was apologizing for the handling by Fort Worth Police Department and the Texas Alcohol Beverage Commission of a routine inspection at the Rainbow Lounge that left one individual hospitalized, six arrested, amid accusations of police brutality and misconduct, but Wednesday, a spokesperson for the Mayor said Moncreif was apologizing for those injured in the raid. You can watch the accompanying video of Moncrief and come to your own conclusions.

Late Wednesday, the Episcopalian bishops meeting in Anaheim, California voted to approve a measure best deemed a compromise on performing gay marriages. While there remains no introduction of an official rite for same-sex marriages, the Episcopalian Church will allow bishops to bless gay marriages in states where there are legal. Conservative Episcopalian’s still contend that the liberalization of the Church, the movement towards inclusion for gay men and women will anger the Anglican Church, and give credence to calls by the Anglican Church worldwide to separate from the American arm.

Tampa Bay Ray Evan Longoria, so sadly absent from Tuesday evening’s Major League Baseball All-Star game – in Los Angeles, so stunningly sexy.

Ian Thorpe is reportedly interested in becoming a boxer, albeit for charity.

Michael Phelps is seen arriving at the ESPY Awards Wednesday evening in Los Angeles, and looking, um, well, worn.
