Federal Investigation Into Rainbow Lounge Raid, Diversity Task Force Created, Solar Eclipse, Jackson Doctor Offices Raided, Treasonous Birthers

Led by Mayor Mike Moncrief, the Fort Worth City Council late Tuesday passed a resolution requesting a federal, independent investigation into a police raid on the Rainbow Lounge in the early hours on June 28th. The United States attorney’s office in Dallas, Texas must now consider the request. The resolution comes exactly one week after a raucous city council meeting with the general public in which a number of gay activists, demanding answers on why the Rainbow Lounge was the target of a raid and how that raid quite quickly grew out of control leaving six arrested and one hospitalized, were ejected.

Also on Tuesday, in an attempt to mitigate the collateral damage from the raid and the aftermath, the Fort Worth City Council passed a resolution to form a Diversity Task Force to aid in helping city officials “on better customer service for GLBT citizens, increasing awareness of anti-discrimination policies, and facilitating communication between the city and the GLBT community.

Across Asia, millions are watching a spectacular solar eclipse, the longest to occur this century, with an odd combination of celebration and fear. The Solar Eclipse Is Observed In Asia

A number of officials from the Drug Enforcement Agency, the Houston police, and the Los Angeles police have raided the Houston, Texas clinic of Doctor Conrad Murray, Michael Jackson’s physician, Wednesday morning, executing search warrants.

In the past few weeks, I have noticed that quite quietly, hiding under the radar, American conspiracy theorists – “birthers” – who claim Barack Obama is not a United States citizen because no birth certificate exists as proof, therefore he cannot, by law, be President, has grown and in doing so managed to gain some sense of credibility: well, as much credence as a lunatic fringe movement can. The problem, outside of the obvious, that it is a distraction from say policy discussion on health care, the military ban on gays serving openly and staggering poverty, is that it is nothing less and nothing more than retrograde racisms masquerading as patriotism. The video below is from a town hall meeting led by Delaware Republican Congressman Mike Castle, who is ambushed by a woman who should – in all honesty – being arrested and charged with treason. I realize she is a mental patient, but she would kill you if you dared disagree with her version of America.
