Representative Bob Filner, Democrat and chairman of the House Veterans Affair Committee, has asked the United States Department of Defense and the Marine Corps to initiate an investigation into whether the killing of twenty-eight year old Seaman August Provost, was a hate crime. Provost, gay, was found dead early Tuesday morning in a guard shack on the edge of the Camp Pendleton base. Earlier reports indicate he had been shot and his body burned. Provost’s family has stated the August had been repeatedly harassed by other military personal on the base.
