Brandon McInerney Hearing Begins

The preliminary hearing in the case against Brandon McInerney, accused of killing Lawrence King, began Monday. King was fifteen when he was murdered, alleged shot by McInerney, then fourteen, in February, 2008 in a classroom at the E.O. Green School Oxnard, California. McInerney is charged with murder and with a hate crime and is being tried as an adult. Ramiro Albarran, a police officer, today testified that he interviewed students in the days after the shooting, all of whom corroborated the district attorney’s contention that King was murdered because he was gay. The officer stated that a student told him that Brandon “and his friends were going to jump Larry King, beat him up, and shank him.” Albarran added that the student said “Brandon didn’t like Larry King because Larry King was gay and dressed like a girl.”
