Church of England Bishop Michael Nazir-Ali told the Sunday Telegraph that the Church would welcome homosexuals, but “we want them to repent and be changed.” Nazir-Ali, who is retiring in September, also stated that the Church needs to maintain “the traditional teachings” and not “be rolled over by the culture and trends in the Church.” His statements come at time when the Queen is said to have sent a letter of support to a traditional faction of the Church that intends to resist a movement towards inclusion. In a sermon delivered Sunday, the Bishop said that homosexuality is a threat to Christianity, dividing the Anglican community.
