Public Affairs Group Who Aiding In Proposition 8 Passage Headed To Maine, Barney Frank, Homicidal Heat

Reports Friday morning that gay marriage opponents in the state of Maine have retained the services of the same firm who helped pass Proposition 8 to help repeal Maine’s gay marriage law, set to take effect on September 1st, 2009. Schubert Flint Public Affairs, a California based company, with offices in state capital Sacramento and Orange County that operate as lobbyists masquerading as a quasi-public relations firm and who helped in large part to pass Proposition 8. The company is proudest of the work it has done in California and Nevada, representing large pharmaceutical companies and opponents of health care reform, and likes to incorporate fear as a campaign theme. The organization Maine Freedom to Marry, proponents of gay marriage, have retained the services of Joe Connelly to counter, Connelly have successfully captained a 2005 campaign to defend the state’s gay rights laws. A total of at least fifty-five thousand, eight-seven signatures of registered voters need to be obtained before September in order to suspend the same-sex marriage law and place a ballot referendum on the issue for a November election.

Democratic Representative Barney Frank will be in Maine this weekend, as a part of the state’s Pride Festivities, planned before the announcement that the state’s just passed gay marriage law would be formally contested, and it is expected that what was to be a reception celebrating the advancement of equal rights for gays will take on a slightly more aggressive tone, one that warns of the fight ahead.
