Nevada Legislators Pass Domestic Partnership Bill, A Christian Killed George Tiller, Kellan Lutz Shirtless, Kristen Stewart Is Joan Jett

The Nevada Assembly has done the right thing, and in a 28-14 vote, decided to override the state Governor Jim Gibbons and his veto of a domestic partnership bill, the legislation – Senate Bill 283 - meant to afford the basic identical rights and protections to gay and straight couples as are afforded to married couples come into law on October 1st, 2009. Gibbons had employed the veto because he felt the bill violated the Nevada amended constitution’s definition of marriage as that only existing between a man and a woman. The domestic partnership registration, a part of the passed bill, is not, however a marriage licenses. Lee Rowland, who is the Northern Nevada coordinator for the American Civil Liberties Union, whose work helped influence the much needed swing votes, said of the veto and the passing of the bill that “this is morally, ethically, and fiscally the right thing for Nevada.”

The suspect arraigned in Sunday’s fatal shooting of Doctor George Tiller, who was one of the only remaining doctor’s in America performing late-term abortions, is fifty-one year old Scott Roeder. Roeder has an involvement with the Des Moines, Iowa based publication Prayer and Action News, a monthly newsletter, whose main focus is apparently articulating anti-abortion and anti-government sentiment. David Leach, who runs the newsletter, said that to term George Tiller’s killing a “crime is too simplistic” and said “there is Christian scripture that would support” the murder.

Friday, Twilight hotness Kellan Lutz, pre-MTV Movie Awards, went for a walk/run with his ever so adorable dog Kola, Kellan opting to go shirtless, which is much more than fine.

Kellan’s Twilight co-star Kristen Stewart, whom I find loathsome, is set to star as seminal seventies pop figure Joan Jett in a new film based on Jett and her band titled The Runaways, with Dakota Fanning as Cherie Currie as well as Michael Shannon, so very good in Revolutionary Road.
