The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation have released a statement on the utter garbage spewed from the mouth of Perez Hilton Monday morning, whom, via a video blog post directed against Will. i. am. member of the Black Eyed Peas, who Perez had previously alleged assaulted him, said “I don’t need to respect you and you’re a f-g. You’re gay, and stop being such a f--got,” awkward and odd statements from a man who mere months ago positioned himself as the unofficial spokesperson for the gay community and who led the charge against Carrie Prejean and her unique brand of hate.
According to GLAAD, those utterances “are vulgar antigay slurs that feed a climate of hated and intolerance toward our community.” GLAAD added that statements such as the ones made by Hilton legitimizes the use of a antigay insult “that is often linked to violence against our community and sends a dangerous message that it is okay to attempt to dehumanize people by exploiting antigay attitudes.” While condemning the violence directed towards Hilton – he was alleged assaulted by the band’s manager – GLAAD has requested Perez apologize for his hateful, homophobic insults and have asked that when reporting the story, the offending words are edited. No comment has yet been made by Hilton, whose sense of self-importance and fictional relevance may soon be coming to an end.
Cleveland, Ohio’s Museum of Art opened its new east wing, and to mark the moment, screened Erased James Franco, the man himself on hand, along with the director, Carter, who explained the film is “about how absence replaces presence and becomes a work of art.” Abstract and experimental, the film, which is not likely to be released commercially, is scheduled to play a number of festivals, including New York and Toronto later this year.
Cher has confirmed that she will appear opposite Christina Aguilera in a new film titled Burlesque. This will be Cher’s first appearance in a movie in ten years.
Broadway Bares – an annual event that is an extension of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS – as I posted previously, was held last night, its nineteenth, with notables Nick Adams, Gavin Creel, Mo Rocca, and the unsinkable Michael Urie on hand, AfterElton.com offering a pictorial roundup of the evening’s nearly nude festivities.
Meanwhile, the one, the only Tim Murphy, New York Magazine’s own, offering his decidedly Tim take on the night, and I am calling it – the best line, “you’re like a little snack.” Please give Tim his own twenty-four a day cable show, now!
