And New Hampshire Makes Six

New Hampshire has, after an arduous affair, become the sixth state in America to legalize same-sex marriage, with Democratic Senator John Lynch signing into law legislation that underwent various revisions meant to satisfy religious organizations. Termed “conscience protections,” those final changes allow for religious groups who oppose gay marriage based on doctrine the right to opt out of performing the wedding. The bill stopped short of ridiculous requests initially made that were to allow bakeries, florists, and photographers the right to opt out as well, if they somehow opposed gay marriage on ethical or moral grounds.
