Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is home this weekend to the National Equality Rally, to take place Sunday, the first such rally since 2000, dovetailing with the National Equality Forum. Organizers are calling for demonstrations calling an end to the Defense of Marriage Act, as well as a repeal on the United States military ban on gays serving openly.
Carol Ann Duffy was named the new poet laureate of Britain on Friday, the first female named to that post in three-hundred and forty-one years. It was reported that Duffy was considered to be a nominee in 1999, but at that time Prime Minister Tony Blair expressed concern that having an openly gay women hold the lauded post would not be met with mass acceptance.
Hollywood hobo Shia LaBeouf has a history of substance abuse, and he tells Playboy in a candid, detailed interview that he will never regain full control of his left hand, injured in an accident Shia says was the result of his drinking. He also talks about doing drugs, and about running naked through the Disney lot high, admitting that there is video footage somewhere of Shia’s penis.
