With consideration of gay marriage experiencing a sea change in the United States – four states in the union have passed legislation legalizing same-sex marriage, and two more, New Jersey and New York are likely to move forward on the issue – the federal extension of equal rights for gays seems an inevitable conclusion, but according to this article from Saturday’s New York Times, the United States Supreme Court would rather avoid having to weight the issue largely because the 1973 Roe vs. Wade is a political landmine that continues to go off.
