As was expected, Sweden passed legislation Wednesday to legalize gay marriage in that county, the fifth European country to do so, with a revision of the nation’s marriage law to now feature gender non-specific language. The changes will take effect May 1st, 2009, and will not, lawmakers, stressed, affect for the moment any church ceremonies.
Tuesday, the New York State Court of Appeals agreed to hear two arguments that may help influence the direction the State takes in terms of legalizing gay marriage, with two cases being brought forward that each challenge New York State’s recognition of same-sex marriages preformed elsewhere, but, typically, the Alliance Defense Fund, an ad hoc Christian group, is battling to have state and municipal not sanction any and all gay marriages in effort to keep same-sex marriage illegal.
